A prototype of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS has been spotted at the Nurburgring.
This ultra-wide track-focused vehicle will be equipped with a turbocharged hybrid flat-six engine. Rumors indicate that the RS could boast over 700 hp and come with a price tag nearing $500,000.
Featuring aggressive scoops, large spoilers, a track-tuned chassis, and a powerful 518 hp (525 PS) flat-six, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS stands apart from the base Carrera and is considered the flagship of the 911 lineup. However, its supremacy may soon change, as Porsche is set to bring back the formidable GT2 RS.
The spy images showcase a prototype of the new 911 flagship undergoing tests at Germany’s Nurburgring and its surrounding roads, revealing that it is significantly wider than the GT3 RS. While the front fenders resemble those of the GT3 RS, they extend much further outwards, and the rear features riveted fender flares.
These modifications create an unusual appearance, as the prototype seems to maintain a standard GT3 RS track width, resulting in a mismatch between the wheels and the arches. However, by the time the GT2 RS is revealed, we can expect those fenders to be aligned with an even wider set of forged wheels for enhanced grip and traction.
In terms of performance, the new GT2 is expected to have a hybrid-assisted turbocharged flat-six engine generating over 700 hp (710 PS). While many supercars produce higher horsepower figures, this is nearly 200 hp (203 hp) more than the GT3 RS, which is currently the fourth-fastest car on the Nurburgring, with a lap time of 6:49.33.
The previous GT2 RS, equipped with the optional Manthey performance package, holds the second-fastest record at 6:43.30, remaining in second place even five years later, surpassed only by the much more powerful and expensive AMG One's record of 6:35.18.
Though the new GT2 RS will still seem relatively affordable compared to multi-million dollar hypercars like the AMG One, it appears that its price will be significantly higher than the previous model, which had an MSRP of $294,450 in 2019. A screenshot from a German dealership showcasing a configuration for the 992 GT2 RS indicated a price of €450,000 ($504,000) and suggested it may be available in 2026.
