The GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be produced at Maserati's facility in Modena, adjacent to the MC20 supercar.
Moving the production from Mirafiori in Turin will create space for the forthcoming Fiat 500 Hybrid. This transition is set for the fourth quarter of 2025, reaffirming Maserati's dedication to the Motor Valley region.
The GranTurismo and GranCabrio are relocating to Modena, leaving the Mirafiori plant. This change, planned for late 2025, aligns with Fiat's plans to manufacture the 500 Hybrid in Turin, aiming for an impressive output of 100,000 units a year.
In the meantime, Maserati's sales have dropped significantly, plummeting from 26,600 units in 2023 to just 11,300 in 2024, leading to the cancellation of several initiatives meant to enhance the brand’s offerings.
While Maserati's outlook appears challenging, the company asserts that moving the production of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio to its headquarters reinforces its strong commitment to the Motor Valley and its community.
The Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena produces the MC20 Coupe, Cielo, and GT2 Stradale, in addition to the V6 Nettuno engine that powers the entire Maserati range. The Trident brand refers to it as one of the most advanced facilities in Italy, establishing Modena as the luxury hub of Stellantis Group.
As reported by Quattroruote, most workers currently on the Maserati line in Mirafiori will transition to the production of the Fiat 500 Hybrid, while some will be reassigned to other tasks within the plant, such as manufacturing the eDCT gearbox.
However, the “bodywork and painting” for the GranTurismo and GranCabrio will still be handled at the Turin factory, located approximately 300 km (186 miles) from Modena.
The Maserati GranTurismo debuted in 2022, with the GranCabrio following in 2024. Both models are built on an enhanced version of the Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform, offering options for V6 and fully electric (Folgore) powertrains.
Santo Ficili, Maserati's CEO, stated:
“Returning the GranTurismo and GranCabrio to Modena is a proud and strategic choice that merges our industrial legacy with future capabilities. We express gratitude to our colleagues at Mirafiori for their excellent work during the initial production phase in recent years. By commencing production in Q4 2025, we fortify our roots while providing the innovation and flexibility our customers expect.
“Our foundation is anchored in Modena: this area is integral to our remarkable brand, the oldest in the entire Italian Motor Valley, with the capability to present a unique vision of performance and driving enjoyment. Our commitment to the local community remains unwavering, and we aspire to create new avenues for growth.”
