Mercedes-AMG kicked off the 6×6 trend in 2013 by transforming the G63 into a massive six-wheeled vehicle with portal axles. Since then, various types of trucks have undergone similar modifications, including a Hellcat-powered Humvee and an electric microcar from China. However, affordable options remain quite rare. Currently for sale on Facebook Marketplace is one of the more budget-friendly six-wheelers I've come across, somewhat resembling the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 we have at home.

This vehicle, located in Dallas, Texas, started its life as a 12th-generation Ford F-150, specifically a 2010 model featuring the well-known 5.4-liter V8 engine, and it comes in a rather unexciting shade of white. The reflective stripes on the tailgate really enhance its “work truck” aesthetics, and with 218,000 miles on the odometer, it's far from a low-mileage gem. At first glance, this truck would easily fit into the “beater” category, even if it still had just four wheels.

The conversion to six wheels is quite interesting, to say the least. There's no indication of who installed the third axle, but the paint quality hints that it may have been done as a DIY project, with noticeable overspray on the passenger side of the bed. The mismatched wheels also raise some concerns, although the Marketplace listing asserts that the title is clean.

The ad didn't include interior photos, and I’m quite curious about the underbody as well. Adding a third axle typically requires significant structural changes, from elongating the frame to integrating some type of suspension. I suspect the setup underneath could be quite rudimentary.

I still have many questions: Is the third axle driven? Or is it merely there for stability purposes? Legally, it won’t be able to carry more weight than Ford originally rated it for.

There’s a possibility that the overall roughness could conceal a rather cool truck. If you clean up the bodywork, give it a fresh paint job, and lift it, you could transform it into an impressive exploration vehicle. If that sounds like your ideal project, it could be yours for $11,500, waiting to occupy an XL-sized spot in your driveway.
