Sources indicate that Nissan will reconsider its production strategies for the Rogue if and when tariffs are modified.

Nissan is set to reduce the output of 13,000 Rogues manufactured in Japan that were initially destined for the United States due to increasing automotive import tariffs.

Despite a decline in annual sales, the Rogue continues to be Nissan's best-selling model in the US.

The Rogue is the top-selling Nissan vehicle in the United States, but the fact that many units are produced in Japan makes them vulnerable to President Trump's 25% tariffs on automotive imports. Consequently, Nissan will be decreasing its Japanese production of this compact crossover.

Last year, the US market saw sales of 245,724 Rogues, far surpassing the brand’s second-best-selling vehicle, the Sentra sedan. Although the Rogue's sales fell by 9.5% from 2023's 271,458 units, it remains a crucial model for the company.

An unnamed source familiar with Nissan’s plans revealed that the production of the Rogue at the Kyushu plant in southwestern Japan will be decreased by 13,000 units over May, June, and July. During this period, employee hours will be reduced, and there will be complete production halts on certain days.

According to Reuters, Nissan will reevaluate its production plans if there are changes in tariffs. The company has stated that it is reviewing its production and supply chain operations to adapt to shifts in the market.

Nissan faces greater exposure to the new tariffs than some other automakers, as the US constitutes over 25% of its global sales. While the Rogue has also been manufactured at its Smyrna, Tennessee facility since 2023, many vehicles sold in the US are produced in Japan or Mexico.

In January, Nissan announced plans to reduce Rogue production at Smyrna from two shifts to one starting in April, and similarly cut production for the Altima at its Canton site from September. However, the company has recently reversed this decision and will maintain two shifts for US production of the Rogue to mitigate the impact of the tariffs.
