The new BYD Han L EV can extend its range by 248 miles in just five minutes using BYD’s 1,000-volt system and 1,000 kW ultra-fast chargers.

The BYD Han L is equipped with an 83.2 kWh Blade battery, while the Tang L features a larger 100.5 kWh pack. Both models are built on an advanced 1000-volt electrical system. Customers can quickly recharge their EVs with BYD’s cutting-edge 1,000 kW ultra-fast charger.

BYD has introduced two new electric vehicles in China based on its innovative Super e-Platform. While the automaker frequently launches new models, the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV stand out as they offer charging times comparable to refueling a traditional gasoline vehicle. If BYD’s charging speed promises hold true, the Han L and Tang L could address one of the major concerns of electric vehicle ownership.

The Super e-Platform, which includes the 1000-volt architecture, was announced earlier this year in March. The Han L sedan comes with an 83.2 kWh Blade battery across all its versions, whereas the Tang L has the larger 100.5 kWh battery. According to BYD, the Han L can charge from 10-70% in a mere 6 minutes. That's correct: just six minutes. It can also gain 248 miles (400 km) of range in five minutes and requires only 20 minutes to charge the battery from 0-100%.

The Tang L EV also offers remarkable charging speeds, achieving 230 miles (370 km) of range in just 5 minutes and taking only 30 minutes to charge from 0-100%. However, these impressive charging speeds can only be reached when using one of BYD’s new 1,000 kW fast chargers that were introduced in March. The company plans to install 4,000 of these chargers across China but hasn't specified when they will be available.

Prices for the Tang L start at 219,800 yuan (~$30,000) for the LiDAR Premium model, rising to 239,800 yuan (~$32,700) for the LiDAR Flagship. Both versions feature a 671 hp electric motor with 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque, driving the rear wheels, and can travel up to 436 miles (701 km) on a single charge. For those seeking higher performance, there’s also an AWD LiDAR Flagship available for 279,800 yuan (~$38,100), which boasts dual electric motors delivering 778 hp and an estimated range of 373 miles (601 km).

Three versions of the BYD Tang L have been announced, with prices ranging from 229,800 yuan (~$31,200) to 289,900 yuan (~$39,400). It surpasses the sedan in terms of performance, with the base rear-wheel drive model producing 788 hp, while the dual-motor AWD variant is rated at 1,100 hp. Depending on the specifications, local media reports range estimates of between 348 miles (560 km) and 416 miles (670 km).
