General Motors is starting 2025 on a high note with significant growth in overall sales in the USA.

The Colorado is leading the charge, with notable increases also seen from GMC, Hummer, and Buick.

However, the Corvette, Blazer, and Terrain are lagging behind in GM’s otherwise strong performance.

Though we are just three months into the year, things are looking promising for General Motors. U.S. sales have risen by 16.7 percent compared to the same quarter in 2024, climbing from 594,233 to 693,363 deliveries. Today, we will delve into the factors driving this growth, identify the models struggling, and highlight those gaining traction.

All of GM's core brands are reporting increases, with some modest and others surprisingly robust. Chevrolet leads with 443,564 vehicles sold in Q1, marking a 13.7 percent rise from last year. GMC also shows strong momentum with a 17.6 percent increase, driven by solid truck and SUV sales.

Additionally, Cadillac, which is balancing its legacy-luxury identity with a shift towards EVs, saw a respectable 17.8 percent rise. The standout, however, is Buick, which jumped nearly 40 percent, aided by refreshed crossovers like the Envista and Encore GX. While often overlooked within GM's lineup, Buick’s Q1 figures imply that attention may finally be shifting its way.

      Mid-Size Trucks Show Strong Growth

Mid-size trucks continue to be a significant revenue stream in the industry. The Chevrolet Colorado has increased by 73.3 percent so far, with 25,856 sales. Should this trend continue, it would be the first time since 2019 that Chevrolet sells over 100,000 Colorados. The GMC Canyon has also performed well, boasting a 65.9 percent rise compared to Q1 2024.

Interestingly, GM's full-size truck segment is not uniformly performing well. The Silverado Light Duty has dropped by 7.6 percent, while the GMC Sierra counterpart is up by 14.4 percent. Both the Sierra and Silverado HD versions have seen increases. Conversely, the Terrain has decreased by 27.1 percent, and the Blazer is down by 12.6 percent.

      The Struggling Models

Among the models not performing well, the Corvette has seen a decrease of 20.8 percent thus far, but it is set for a facelift soon, leading potential buyers to perhaps wait for the updated version. Other struggling models under GM's umbrella tell a different story, such as the Cadillac Lyriq, which has dropped 25.9 percent year-over-year, and the CT4, which is down by 30 percent.

Lastly, there are some outliers with drastic percentage shifts. These include vehicles that are no longer in production, like the Camaro (-98.4 percent), and those increasing production significantly, such as the Blazer EV (up 931 percent) and the Silverado EV and GMC Savana, both of which have risen over 120 percent compared to Q1 2024.
