Trump Supporter Draws Taser Against Tesla Protesters, But Grandma Stands Her Ground | Carscoops
It seems that nobody was hit by the taser, despite the threat.
A Trump supporter clashed with protestors at a Tesla store in Berkeley, leading to a chaotic encounter.
An older woman involved in the protest grabbed the man's hair before the police intervened.
While the police arrested the man, he only received a citation and was not charged with assault.
An anti-Tesla demonstration outside one of the car manufacturer's stores in Berkeley, California, intensified into a heated conflict between demonstrators and a local Trump supporter over the weekend. The incident resulted in the arrest of one man, and with protests against Tesla becoming more prominent across the U.S. and beyond, such situations are appearing more frequently.
Footage from a local reporter captured 33-year-old Rick Fuze, a Berkeley resident and owner of an e-bike repair shop, arriving at the protest on his e-bike. Fuze was playing music and broadcasting pro-Trump messages while approaching the protesters. This wasn’t Fuze’s first attempt to disrupt protests at this Tesla store, as he has been known to film his actions for his YouTube channel.
However, this time, the protesters were not receptive. The video shows Fuze riding along the street, only to have several individuals step in front of him, blocking his way. In reaction, Fuze pulled out a taser and brandished it at two protesters. One of them, Susan Kegeles, immediately reacted by pulling Fuze's hair in an attempt to defend herself. The police quickly intervened, arresting Fuze and removing him from the scene.
The video shared by Berkeleyside also includes footage of a police officer talking to a protester right after the arrest. He can be heard saying, “He [Fuze] tased somebody,” and added, “he had a taser, and he was tasing people.”
Fuze, however, denied the allegations, reportedly telling officers that he “didn’t tase anyone” and that he only “pulled it out to protect myself.” Berkeley Police Lt. Steve Rego stated at the scene that Fuze could face charges for brandishing a weapon or assault, but only if the taser actually made contact with someone. It appears that no one was actually hit by the taser. Following his arrest, Fuze wrote on YouTube that he was given a citation but not charged.
It appears that no action has been taken against Kegeles despite her aggressive reaction toward Fuze that led to the physical confrontation. Police intervened to separate the parties, but no charges against her have been reported.
