2027 BMW 5-Series Set to Enter the Neue Klasse Era | Carscoops
A significant transformation is underway for BMW's mid-size sedan.
BMW is developing a refreshed 5-Series that incorporates Neue Klasse design elements.
The front end will feature a complete redesign, and a revamped interior is also anticipated.
The vehicle may include an enhanced six-cylinder engine, along with upgraded PHEV and EV options.
Last month, spy photographers captured the initial images of the facelifted BMW M5, and we now have a look at the standard sedan. It showcases a completely new front fascia as part of a bold Neue Klasse redesign, representing a significant evolution for the brand.
The changes are strikingly evident as the iconic twin kidney grille has been replaced by a new design that seamlessly connects to the reimagined headlights. While it's challenging to convey the exact appearance, it is expected to resemble the Vision Neue Klasse.

While the new 'grille' is eye-catching, the vehicle also sports a revised bumper with a newly positioned central intake. The lower intake has been redesigned as well, now featuring a noticeable vertical bar in the middle.
The rest of the design follows a more evolutionary path, resembling a typical facelift. Consequently, we should expect new taillights and an updated rear bumper.
Spy photographers have yet to capture a clear view of the interior, but it is likely that the sedan will feature the Panoramic iDrive and Operating System X. Both were showcased at CES and will equip future models with a customizable display that spans from pillar to pillar beneath the windshield. This display is divided into several sections and will likely be complemented by a central infotainment system and a new multifunction steering wheel, which effectively replaces the criticized iDrive controller.
Under the hood, there is an expectation of a combination of familiar and enhanced engines. The 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder could continue to deliver 255 hp (190 kW / 259 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, while the 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six may be upgraded to produce 393 hp (293 kW / 398 PS) and 428 lb-ft (580 Nm) of torque. This would represent an increase of 18 hp (13 kW / 18 PS) and 30 lb-ft (41 Nm).
Upgraded plug-in hybrid and electric variants are also expected, although details about them remain scarce at this time. We anticipate a debut in mid to late next year.
