This Ruf CTR Yellowbird was auctioned for $6.1 million, which is 41 times its original price | Carscoops
When the CTR Yellowbird was introduced, it had a starting price of $147,800.
This striking GTR Yellowbird has only been driven for 1,673 km since it was new.
It is powered by a 3.4-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine producing 463 hp and 408 lb-ft of torque.
This particular CTR Yellowbird is the 26th of the 29 units produced.
Ruf has created some remarkable vehicles over the years, but none are more legendary than the original GTR, affectionately known as the Yellowbird. Although it appears to be a modest Porsche 911, it was once the fastest production car in the world, capable of reaching 213 mph (342 km/h) and surpassing icons like the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959.
Only 29 units were manufactured, and as a testament to its desirability, one sold for $6.055 million last week at Gooding&Company.

This specific Ruf CTR Yellowbird is chassis number 26 and is one of just nine finished in the unique yellow hue that has become synonymous with the model. It has also been equipped with the Leichtbau package, which includes lightweight aluminum for the hood, doors, and front fenders. Additional features include an aluminum roll cage, Recaro seats, and a Blaupunkt audio system.
What makes this Yellowbird even more desirable is its low mileage. With only 1,673 km (1,039 miles) recorded, it is likely the lowest-mileage example still in existence. The auction house states that the seller regularly drives it to operating temperature and changes the fluids, ensuring it remains in optimal running condition, unlike many other cars that sit unused in garages and accumulate dust.
Complete and Immaculate
In addition to its immaculate state, this Yellowbird includes all original accessories: tool kit, jack, tire inflator, owner’s manual, and warranty book. Stepping inside feels like entering a time capsule—without any musty odor.
To create a one-of-a-kind 911, Ruf began with a 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 and completely re-engineered the engine. The flat-six now displaces 3.4 liters and features new turbochargers and enhanced intercoolers, resulting in a robust output of 463 horsepower and 408 lb-ft (553 Nm) of torque, delivered to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. It was a powerhouse in its day and remains formidable today.
When the CTR was first launched, its starting price was $147,800, which equates to approximately $399,605 in today’s dollars when adjusted for inflation. Fast forward to the present, and its value has soared, with this specific example now valued at 41 times or 1,401% more than its original MSRP. That's a significant investment, especially for enthusiasts of cars that can break the sound barrier and set records.
