      Do you remember the Aston Martin Cygnet? What an amusing little vehicle that was. Essentially, it was just a Toyota IQ supermini hatchback featuring the same 1.3-liter, 100-horsepower, three-cylinder engine—dressed up with some cuter aesthetics and enhanced leather seat cushioning. However, in 2018, Aston Martin allowed this unconventional model to transform into something spectacular by equipping it with a V8 Vantage S powertrain. It’s named the V8 Cygnet, and it stands out as one of the most hilariously entertaining cars ever created. And now, it's available for purchase.

      Aston Martin produced only one of these amusingly dangerous creations. Designed and constructed by the brand's Q by Aston Martin division, which typically develops unique option packages and colors for client vehicles, this model features a 4.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, strategically installed longitudinally in the space originally allocated for a three-cylinder engine. Coupled with a seven-speed automatic transaxle that drives only the rear wheels, this powerhouse delivers 430 horsepower. Oh, and its wheelbase measures 78.7 inches—that's over two feet shorter than the current Volkswagen Golf. Weighing in around 1,800 pounds, it boasts 430 horsepower directed to the rear wheels.

      That immense power is of no use if it isn't controllable. I’m not certain how well this car performs on a track, but the V8 Cygnet also adopted the front and rear suspension, brakes, and ABS system from the Vantage S. To accommodate the Vantage’s suspension, the wheel track was significantly widened, enhanced with substantial carbon fiber fender flares. Its extraordinarily short wheelbase and broad track give it an almost perfectly square appearance.

      To ensure the econobox structure could withstand the demands of its new power and handling abilities, Aston Martin sensibly reinforced its chassis and body, adding a full roll cage. Very little of the original Toyota IQ remains. With Vantage V8 power packed into something the size of a mailbox, that roll cage is an essential feature.

      Although it resembles a race car on the inside—with Recaro seats, four-point harnesses, an exposed roll cage, an FIA-compliant fire extinguisher, and a racing steering wheel devoid of an airbag—this is still a fully operational road car. It retains features like power mirrors, USB ports, and even a cupholder integrated into its carbon fiber dashboard.

      The V8 Cygnet was crafted for a particular client, who only used it for 2,900 miles, and Aston Martin has maintained it since its creation. Thus, it is in remarkable condition. This compact V8 beast is being sold by Aston Martin specialist Nicholas Mee, but it’s hard to predict its selling price. Even regular Cygnets are rare; the few we found for sale are listed around $50,000, but this one holds considerably more uniqueness.
