The PV5 is essentially an ID.Buzz tailored for Uber drivers and businesses.

Kia has unveiled the PV5 EV, which is set to launch in the latter half of this year.

It features battery pack options of 43.3, 51.5, and 71.2 kWh, offering a maximum range of up to 249 miles.

An extensive variety of configurations will be available, with all models equipped with a 161 hp motor.

After offering a preview earlier this month, Kia has now shared details and preliminary specifications for the new PV5 van. This model is the first in their Platform Beyond Vehicle series and will be available in passenger, cargo, and chassis cab variants.

The PV5 Passenger variant boasts three rows of seats, making it easy to switch between personal and commercial use. Kia has indicated collaboration with Uber to address user needs, meaning the van will cater to various rider scenarios and will qualify for multiple Uber service categories.

The PV5 Cargo will come in Standard, Long, and High-Roof configurations, providing as much as 180.1 cubic feet (5,100 liters) of cargo capacity. The Standard and Long models feature two front seats, with an optional third seat available. Additionally, an optional L-track mounting system for the cargo area is offered.

The PV5 Chassis Cab, derived from the PV5 Cargo, is delivered as an "incomplete vehicle," designed to be converted into various types such as a drop side truck or refrigerated van.

In terms of dimensions, the Passenger and Cargo Long variants measure 184.8 inches (4,695 mm) in length and possess a 117.9-inch (2,995 mm) wheelbase. This makes them 10.6 inches (269 mm) shorter than the U.S. version of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz, yet just 0.7 inches (18 mm) smaller than the shorter European variant.

      A Simplistic and Versatile Interior

Given that the PV5 is aimed at business use, its interior lacks excitement. It features a minimalist dashboard equipped with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment system powered by Android Automotive OS. Accompanying these are a pillar-like center stack and a two-spoke steering wheel with a column-mounted shifter.

Although the interior may not be visually appealing, it provides significant customization options. Included in this are AddGear modular accessories that resemble custom furniture. Additionally, various options and passenger-oriented models come with multiple storage compartments and heated seats in the second row.

A New Platform with Various Battery Options

The PV5 is built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform for Service (E-GMP.S), which is an evolution of the existing E-GMP architecture. This new platform is more tailored for fleet use, standardizing critical components like batteries and motors to cut costs and simplify development.

Moreover, the E-GMP.S is designed as an electric skateboard platform, allowing for various body designs to be mounted onto a flat base. Kia has also introduced a Flexible Body System that supports Passenger, Cargo, Chassis-Cab, Wheelchair Accessible, and Family configurations, as well as Crew, Drop Side, Box Van, Freezer Box, Prime, and Light Camper options.

The PV5 will be available with a 43.3 kWh LFP battery, in addition to 51.5 and 71.2 kWh NCM batteries. With the larger batteries, the PV5 Passenger can achieve a range of up to 249 miles (400 km) according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure. Charging from 10% to 80% takes approximately 30 minutes.

All models are expected to utilize a front-mounted motor that delivers 161 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque. Additional specifics are anticipated to be revealed closer to the launch date.

The PV5 is set to go on sale in Europe and South Korea in the latter half of the year, with additional markets expected to see it in 2026.
