Ford Mustang GTD Purchasers Can't Resell for Two Years, Then It's Fair Game | Carscoops
Over 7,500 individuals in North America have shown interest in purchasing the Mustang GTD, which is priced at $325,000.
Ford plans to produce between 600 and 1,400 units of this flagship Mustang.
The Mustang GTD is equipped with a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that generates 815 hp.
This latest iteration of the pony car completed a lap at the Nurburgring in under 7 minutes, making it the most extreme version yet.
Ford stirred controversy by prohibiting Ford GT owners from reselling their cars within the first two years of ownership. Although such restrictions are common among luxury brands like Porsche for their limited models, it was unexpected from a mainstream brand like Ford. Nevertheless, this policy has been reinstated for the special Mustang GTD.
Information about this policy's application to the Mustang GTD surfaced late last week and was later confirmed by Ford. Similar to the GT, Mustang GTD owners must "agree to confidential terms and conditions that require them to keep the vehicle for two years."
According to Ford Authority, this policy is designed to stop owners from taking delivery of their cars only to resell them immediately for a profit. Interestingly, Ford hasn't specified the exact production numbers, but it has indicated that they anticipate selling between 300 and 700 cars during the two-year run of the GTD, implying a total production of between 600 and 1,400 units. The higher estimate seems most plausible.
Demand versus Price
Last year, it was disclosed that over 7,500 individuals in the U.S. and Canada expressed interest in the exclusive Mustang GTD, despite its starting price being approximately $325,000. This positions it about $80,000 above the current Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
So, what do buyers receive for their investment? Firstly, the Ford Mustang GTD boasts a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, producing an impressive 815 hp and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque, making it the most powerful factory Mustang to date. Additionally, it features race-inspired inboard rear suspension, state-of-the-art semi-active dampers, and an exceptional aerodynamic design that contributed to achieving a sub-7-minute lap time around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
