Toyota's stellar reputation for reliability has significantly diminished over the past couple of years. Serious powertrain problems in new trucks have resulted in widespread recalls, and the Tundra, which was once seen as one of the most dependable pickups, has become a source of concern for some customers. This makes the 2022 Toyota Tundra on sale, with over 200,000 miles on its original engine, particularly remarkable.

The current-generation Tundra was introduced in 2021 and featured a new engine option that stirred debate: a twin-turbo, 3.4-liter V6 replacing the virtually indestructible 5.7-liter V8. Many were apprehensive that the high-performance, turbocharged V6 wouldn't match the reliability of the old V8. When engines began to fail in large numbers within the first couple of years, those concerns were validated.

It turned out that a manufacturing flaw had left metal shavings inside the engines. Toyota has since addressed this production issue and has committed to replacing around 100,000 V6 engines, regardless of mileage, at no cost for affected customers. Despite the widespread defects, a few of these engines have proven their durability, and the truck noted by users on the Tundras.com forum is one such survivor.

This high-mileage Tundra was first driven off the lot in July 2022 from a dealer in Tampa Bay. It has since led a busy life; when its original owner parted with it in October 2024, it had already accumulated 210,444 miles. This means they averaged well over 100,000 miles annually, or nearly 300 miles daily, every single day for almost two and a half years. Without a test drive, it's impossible to assess its condition, but a glance at its CarFax reveals 25 service records, mainly from Toyota dealerships, with just one repair noted (a fuel hose was changed at 162,000 miles). The rest were routine services such as fluid changes and tire rotations.

The listing photos show the truck in impressive condition, with no obvious signs of damage, inside or out. The situation only improves as this Tundra is covered by the factory recall, meaning Toyota will replace the entire engine at no cost. Consequently, this high-mileage truck will eventually receive a fresh start after already covering more ground than many other vehicles.

The dealer is requesting $26,500 for this 210,000-mile pickup, with numerous others priced similarly but with much lower mileage. However, if someone can negotiate a better deal on this particular Tundra, they will own a uniquely high-mileage vehicle that will eventually feature a new engine, demonstrating that Toyota's reliability legacy is not completely lost after all.
