Aside from some minor styling adjustments, the 2027 EQS is expected to undergo notable enhancements in its powertrain.

The refreshed Mercedes EQS has been observed during winter testing, showcasing anticipated alterations such as updated bumpers and optional star-pattern lighting. Potential powertrain enhancements may feature an 800V system along with new motors.

Mercedes is already gearing up for a fully electric S-Class incorporating EQ Technology, but before that launches, the company plans to release a second facelift for the underperforming EQS. This model is expected to debut later this year with modifications that extend beyond mere aesthetics.

Recently spotted in cold weather trials, the 2027 EQS may appear quite ordinary at first glance. However, a closer look reveals it will include star-infused headlights. While the taillights remain unchanged for now, it is likely they will be updated in the production version.

Additional modifications are subtle, yet it seems the rear bumper will see a slight revision. The front might also receive updates, but it's difficult to confirm due to the extensive camouflage.

Mercedes has kept information about the vehicle limited, but it is anticipated to feature a new 800-volt electrical architecture. This marks a significant improvement similar to what Polestar and Volvo implemented in the 3 and EX90 models.

We can expect more details to emerge in the upcoming months, along with greatly improved charging times. Additionally, reports suggest the model could benefit from enhanced battery cell chemistry and innovative in-house developed electric motors called eATS 2.0. It may also replace its current single-speed transmission with a new two-speed option.

These modifications are expected to considerably boost efficiency and range. While it's premature to specify exact figures, the EQS 450 Plus currently offers an EPA range of 390 miles (628 km), which is impressive but still falls short compared to the Lucid Air, which can achieve up to 512 miles (824 km) on a single charge.
