This 11-mile Caprice police car never had the opportunity to chase down even one Mustang | Carscoops

An unused Caprice 9C1 illustrates the dominance of sedans before the rise of SUVs.
Only 11 miles are displayed on the V8 Caprice’s digital gauge cluster.
The exterior looks pristine, but inadequate storage has resulted in rust underneath.
While Ford’s Crown Vic is often regarded as the most iconic police cruiser of the 1990s, the real concern for reckless Mustang drivers was its counterpart from Chevy, the Caprice equipped with the 9C1 police package.
However, the 9C1 featured here never had the opportunity to make a single traffic stop and is now available at auction with only 11 miles (18 km) on the odometer, which essentially represents delivery mileage.
Interestingly, this Caprice was never utilized as a police vehicle, despite its black and white livery and the A-pillar spotlight along with other police car features.
It exists solely because of the original buyer's close association with Chevy's fleet sales, allowing him to acquire the vehicle dressed in law enforcement attire.
Dressed in a classic two-tone color scheme, the large Chevy resembles the police sedans of the mid-1990s: low, wide, and imposing, with dog dish hubcaps and a rear track that is too narrow for the body.
The simple interior features blue cloth front seats that have never experienced a coffee spill or donut drop during a night shift, alongside a wipe-clean vinyl bench in the rear.
Power is derived from a 5.7-liter LT1 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, producing around 260 hp (264 PS) and making the Caprice surprisingly swift in a straight line.
During its era, these vehicles were known for their 140 mph (225 km/h) capabilities, humiliating unsuspecting coupes, though this particular unit never had the chance and remains as an automotive “what if?”
Of course, a car that has remained in storage for decades isn't always flawless. While it looks impressive from above, the listing mentions some surface corrosion underneath due to long-term storage on a damp surface.
Based on the photos, however, it seems primarily confined to bolt-on components and is manageable with some time and effort.
The larger question is what will happen next. Will it become a museum piece, spark conversations at Cars and Coffee, or will someone finally put miles on a police car that never officially served?
Regardless, this Caprice serves as an exceptional reminder of when American police sedans were large, loud, and powered by V8 engines, even if this one never had a badge on its door. Take a look at the listing here, and also check out this completed listing for another 9C1 Caprice in full police colors that sold on Bring a Trailer earlier this month with just 291 miles (468 km). Surely, there can't be many more unused examples left out there?
