We are now witnessing the era of six-figure sports cars from Ford and Toyota.

On Thursday, near Mount Fuji in Japan at the debut of the Toyota GR GT in the Woven City, a significant milestone was reached: Toyota unveiled its most costly model since the LFA. While the GR GT won’t start production for another year, it has been announced that its price will be approximately $225,000 upon release.

This isn’t a precise figure, as Toyota isn't yet ready to disclose such specifics. We still lack details like the 0-60 mph time, exact top speed, or any firm specifications beyond its dimensions. However, GR GT Project Manager Takashi Doi mentioned to The Drive, "There are plenty of GT3 cars on the market today, so use that as a reference," in regard to the GR GT's expected price.

The GT3 vehicles Doi refers to include models like the Porsche 911 GT3, which many manufacturers regard as a benchmark, alongside the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT and the Aston Martin Vantage S. The first two were specifically mentioned by Doi and other engineers as competitive models that were analyzed and tested.

Indeed, spies spotted Toyota trialing what was believed to be the Lexus LFR in conjunction with the Mercedes earlier this fall.

Images of the GR GT undergoing tests alongside a Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R at the Nurburgring were captured in September.

The Porsche 911 GT3 starts at over $230,000 before adding any options, and we are all aware of how options can inflate a Porsche’s price. The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is priced just above $202,000 in the GT 63 Pro 4Matic configuration without options, which aligns closely with what we currently understand about the GR GT in terms of power and performance. For the Aston Martin Vantage S, the price ranges between $195,000 and $215,000, depending on the options selected, though it could exceed that range if one were to choose more extravagant features.

This considerable six-figure price tag is why the Toyota will only be available at select Lexus dealerships rather than standard Toyota dealers. GR GT owners won’t have their vehicles serviced alongside a Prius or a Tundra.

Toyota sponsored travel, accommodation, and provided raw fish— which I definitely did not eat— to allow me to deliver this firsthand report.
