The Bolide features the Chiron’s W16 engine integrated into a custom carbon fiber body designed through prototype engineering.
Only 40 units of the track-exclusive Bugatti Bolide have been produced, with the last model drawing inspiration from the iconic Bugatti Type 35. Three unique shades of blue were chosen to complement the owner’s Veyron Grand Sport.
In October 2020, even as the world continued to grapple with the Covid-19 pandemic, Bugatti unveiled the seemingly unbelievable Bolide. This concept combined an otherworldly aesthetic with performance specifications that approached the extreme.
For many, it appeared to be a daring experiment that would remain a singular vision, too radical to move into production.
However, Bugatti didn’t let improbability hold them back for long. Shortly after its debut, the brand announced plans to build 40 Bolide units, all designated for track use.
While the production version doesn’t fully match the concept's performance figures, it comes closest to a Le Mans-spec race car available for Bugatti enthusiasts. Now, this ambitious initiative has reached its conclusion with the completion of the final Bolide.
This model is also one of the last vehicles to leave the factory powered by Bugatti’s renowned 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine, which generates 1,578 hp and 1,179 lb-ft of torque, coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Because of its lightweight design, weighing just 3,196 lbs (1,450 kg), the Bolide accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 2.2 seconds, hits 300 km/h (186 mph) in 11.5 seconds, and reaches a maximum speed of 380 km/h (236 mph).
All 40 models have been hand-assembled in Bugatti’s Molsheim, France facility. The final unit was commissioned by a distinguished collector who owns a rare Type 35, and this contemporary vehicle reflects direct inspiration from that historical racer.
It is adorned with three stunning shades of blue: Black Blue, Special Blue Lyonnais, and Lake Blue, matching the owner’s Veyron Grand Sport.
The craftsmanship is exceptional. Consistent with Bugatti’s standards, all body panels are constructed from lightweight carbon fiber, and before delivering the hypercar to the owner, Bugatti performed vital track testing.
Whether the owner decides to take it onto the track or preserves it in a private collection, the car will serve as an impressive piece of automotive artistry.
“We aimed to create a vehicle that excels on the racetrack while also belonging in the world’s premier collections,” stated Bugatti president Christophe Pichon.
“That’s why we paid meticulous attention to every detail, from the paint to the interior, ensuring that owning a Bolide embodies the same level of craftsmanship as every other Bugatti in your collection,” he added.
With the completion of the Bolide project, Bugatti can now shift its attention to the successor of the Chiron, the V16-powered Tourbillon. Deliveries for this next-generation model are expected to begin next year, marking the start of a new era for the brand.
