Patriot Campers produces some of the most capable off-road trailers globally. Whether you're in need of a pop-up trailer complete with storage for coolers, grills, and other gear, or a single-axle model that can be towed by a Tacoma and still fit under branches and ledges, the Australian brand has you covered. However, until recently, they stated they would never produce a 23-footer.
However, times have shifted, leading to the introduction of the ST7 SuperTourer: a tandem-axle trailer designed for off-the-beaten-path adventures. Be prepared to spend around a quarter of a million dollars for one.

I’ll quickly acknowledge that a camper of this size might raise some eyebrows. In my area of the Ozarks, it would be impossible to maneuver one through narrow spaces surrounded by towering oaks. But in Australia or the American West, where expansive landscapes are more common and trees are sparse, it could be feasible—especially considering the impressive suspension system it features.
Unlike the typical weak stick axles, the ST7 is equipped with a strong independent suspension designed for 35- and 37-inch tires. Patriot refers to this as the Trinamic² setup, and as demonstrated in the accompanying images, it boasts remarkable flexibility. It should handle rough washouts and large dips without issue.
The suspension can be adjusted through a 7-inch tablet. Patriot Campers
One major consideration for a trailer of this size is its clearance, particularly at the rear bumper. Patriot has addressed this concern and achieved a 20° departure angle on the ST7, comparable to the 17-foot ST5. While this isn’t particularly impressive when set against off-road trucks or SUVs, it does provide useful perspective, as the new 250-Series Land Cruiser offers a 22° departure angle.
The promotional images for the ST7 feature it being towed by a Land Cruiser, but it is too heavy for the U.S. version. Patriot specifies the total trailer weight is 7,716 pounds, meaning that while a midsize truck could technically tow it, I would prefer a half-ton to avoid nearing the maximum towing capacity.

Naturally, the ST7 couldn’t be lightweight given all the gear it includes. The large tires contribute to this weight, along with the interior amenities. It comes equipped with four 230-amp-hour lithium batteries, 1,200 watts of solar power, a 3,000-watt inverter, a Truma Kombi D heater that warms both the interior and the underbody, an 80-liter Dometic fridge, and a compact washing machine (which weighs only about seven pounds). There is an extensive amount of storage throughout the camper, with Patriot rating its maximum payload at 2,205 pounds.
You also have the option to customize this camper with numerous add-ons. For instance, there’s a $1,930 storage locker featuring a slide-out drawer. You’ll likely want the $460 Starlink Mini mount on top. Additionally, there’s a $1,350 swingaway BBQ tray with a $279 Weber Q1000 grill. For those who find it necessary, a $3,350 kids café bunk extending sleeping space to three is available, along with another front bunk for $2,780, increasing capacity to five.
What you’re looking at is a $200,000 camping setup, and that’s before it’s shipped to the U.S. Your employer probably isn’t gifting you this for Christmas, nor your higher-ups. Or perhaps you are a self-made millionaire who has mastered the FIRE movement and wishes to travel as comfortably as possible. Regardless, it’s an impressive camper, and I’m somewhat astonished it even exists. Almost.

A 23-foot vehicle shouldn't be able to maneuver like this, yet it can—despite having 37-inch tires.
