An artist has envisioned a sleek Dodge Charger wagon complete with wide fenders.

Considering the proportions, it appears quite appealing and natural.

Creating a wagon could be a smart strategy for Stellantis at this time.

We just returned to town after testing the new Dodge Charger SixPack, and coincidentally, something we were discussing on our journey has already appeared in our feed. Presenting the Charger Wagon (Magnum) rendering. This practical vehicle not only looks impressive, but it could also make a compelling business case for Dodge and Stellantis.

Dodge surprised many last year by announcing plans to produce both a two-door and a four-door version of the Charger. This concept is rarely seen these days, yet here it is, real and surprisingly appealing. This flexibility could potentially lead to the creation of a wagon version if Dodge chooses to pursue it.

The digital artist Kelsonik crafted this rendering, and honestly, it’s so well-done that it could have come directly from Dodge. Notably, the design includes widebody fender flares, which aren’t present on the new Charger… yet. Kelsonik appropriately makes a direct comparison to the Magnum, the last Dodge wagon ever made.

That vehicle never achieved the sales success Dodge anticipated. After a strong debut year with over 50,000 sales, numbers quickly declined. In its second year, Dodge barely exceeded 40,000 sales, and third-year figures dropped to just 30,166. In the last two years combined, it managed to sell slightly over 7,000 units.

However, creating a business rationale for this car might be more feasible than ever. Stellantis clearly aims to boost profits through economies of scale. Utilizing the same STLA Large platform for a wagon could be a practical approach.

Furthermore, the Charger is already a substantial vehicle. Incorporating a long roof and cargo area wouldn’t significantly alter its dynamics; in fact, it would enhance the car’s versatility, a quality that buyers still appreciate, even in a market dominated by SUVs.

Additionally, there’s an enthusiast angle to consider. Wagons have a dedicated fan base, even if that loyalty doesn’t always translate into high sales figures. For Dodge, a brand facing some challenges, that might add to the allure.

And if they really wanted to explore this further, envision a two-door Charger shooting brake. Who wouldn’t be thrilled to see that? While sales might not be enormous, the buzz it could generate? That might be invaluable in terms of marketing impact.
