The GV60 Magma is Genesis’ inaugural high-performance production vehicle.
This electric crossover will feature a peak output of 650 horsepower.
Genesis embarks on a ten-year transition towards “Luxury High Performance.”
Many automakers discuss performance, but few truly deliver on that promise. Genesis, however, appears committed to altering that perception. When it announced last year its plans for a high-performance trim named Magma, it seemed an ambitious goal.
Now, it's making good on that commitment with a 650-horsepower (478 kW / 650 PS) crossover, signaling the beginning of a decade-long initiative towards what it terms “Luxury High Performance.”

Genesis introduced its new production version of the GV60 Magma at Circuit Paul Ricard in France rather than the typical LA Auto Show, clearly indicating its intention to be recognized as a luxury brand with authentic performance credibility.
Hyundai Motor Company President & CEO José Muñoz stated, “We’re not merely creating high-performance vehicles; we’re redefining what it means to be a luxury high-performance brand.”
A New Direction for Genesis
Genesis asserts that its new identity redefines performance to focus on balance, precision, and refinement rather than just raw numbers. This philosophy builds upon the brand’s “Athletic Elegance” design language but extends into motorsport territory.
Chief Design Officer Luc Donckerwolke described Magma as “injecting adrenaline into the Genesis DNA while maintaining elegance.”
The GV60 Magma stands as the first production vehicle of this new performance category. It is positioned 20mm lower than the standard model and features wider fenders, 21-inch forged wheels, gloss-black aerodynamic elements, and other unique design features. However, the real excitement lies beneath the surface.
What’s Its Performance Like?
Sharing its platform and core components with Hyundai’s Ioniq N models, the vehicle features dual motors delivering 609 hp (448 kW) in standard mode, which can increase to 650 hp in Boost Mode. This output exceeds both the Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N, in addition to the 483 hp and 516 lb-ft available in the GV60 Performance.
With launch control activated, it accelerates from 0–200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.9 seconds, which is quicker than a Lamborghini Murcielago. It also achieves 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 264 km/h (164 mph). Not bad for a five-seat vehicle that will likely be priced below six figures.
However, it is not exactly light. The GV60 Magma weighs a claimed 4,938 pounds (2,240 kg), a reminder that performance and weight can be a challenging mix.
Genesis enhanced the performance capabilities with adjusted suspension geometry, firmer bushings, upgraded brakes, and an electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD). Despite the larger tires, cabin noise levels reportedly remain comparable to the standard GV60 due to improved sealing and active noise control.
Digital Features
Genesis also implemented updates beyond hardware modifications, taking cues from the rest of its lineup.
The GV60 Magma features an advanced Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) system that adjusts motor output and regenerative braking to replicate real gear changes, complete with high-rev engine sounds, similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.
Activate “Magma Mode,” and the interface shifts to a three-dial setup displaying battery and motor temperatures along with g-forces. Drift mode is also available, alongside a specialized battery cooling system for track applications.
The GV60 Magma will debut in Korea, with European and North American sales expected to commence in 2026. We look forward to seeing what the next decade holds.
