WhistlinDiesel has been charged with tax evasion in connection with his purchase of a Ferrari F8.
A Tennessee indictment has linked the YouTuber to unpaid vehicle sales tax.
The Ferrari featured in a viral video was registered with Montana plates.
YouTubers often attract significant attention, and sometimes that notoriety comes with more than just fame and wealth; it can also draw scrutiny from authorities. Cody Detwiler, known as WhistlinDiesel, has experienced this firsthand... years after he uploaded a video that could be used against him.

Tennessee law enforcement has arrested him on charges of tax evasion concerning his Ferrari F8 Tributo, the supercar he notoriously purchased with the intent to destroy.
Throughout his time with the F8, he created numerous content pieces, but one video in particular changed everything: the footage of the car engulfed in flames while displaying Montana plates. This minor detail might have triggered the legal actions.
As reported by WKRN, Detwiler’s arraignment is set for November 19 in Williamson County, with both him and his company, WhistlinDiesel LLC, facing a single count of tax evasion.
According to Tennessee Code § 67-1-1440(g), it is considered a Class E felony to "willfully attempt in any manner to evade or defeat any tax due to the state," provided that the amount in question is $500 or more.
The indictment reiterates this threshold, claiming that Detwiler sought to avoid "sales tax due on the purchase of a 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo" amounting to "five hundred dollars ($500) or more."
While not explicitly mentioned, it seems Tennessee authorities may be attempting to hold Detwiler liable for sales tax on the vehicle.
It remains unclear if the state believes he never registered the car or whether they think he evaded taxes by registering it in Montana. If it is the latter, this wouldn’t be surprising.
Many states are taking measures to address this issue as wealthy individuals often register their luxury vehicles in Montana where tax regulations are more favorable. Notably, WhistlinDiesel, LLC is registered in Montana.
Detwiler later shared videos and photos of his arrest online, stating, "Won so big they thought I was cheating. (100% real not AI)." He also commented, "I didn’t do ANYTHING."
We have reached out to Detwiler for further comments and will update this story upon receiving a response.
