Expedition Motor Company has created a stretched G-Class Cabriolet.
It features Mercedes’ OM606a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine, generating 275 hp.
Customers can also choose a GM LS3 V8 upgrade that produces 430 hp.
Although the original Mercedes-Benz G-Class production ceased many years ago, several companies are eager to modify and enhance classic G-Wagens for those who favor the original model over newer versions.
Expedition Motor Company is among these, offering a long-wheelbase G-Class Cabriolet for the staggering price of $235,000.
Stretching the Legacy
This venture marks EMC's first attempt at extending the wheelbase of the G-Class, as they previously concentrated on short-wheelbase projects. By elongating the chassis, two more passengers can now enjoy the rear seats, experience the open air, and bask in the sunlight. This particular G also includes a range of other upgrades.
To begin with, it features new side steps, 18-inch wheels, and is powered by Mercedes-Benz’s OM606a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel engine, which currently produces 275 hp and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) of torque.
While this power seems sufficient for an off-road vehicle of this nature, EMC also provides an option for the 4×4 to include an LS3 V8 engine generating 430 hp. While purists may be concerned about this American muscle in a G-Class, we don’t mind it.
The exterior of this G-Wagen showcases a new dark green paint job and a black bull bar, enhanced by contemporary LED lighting at both ends. Inside, the cabin is fitted with bucket seats covered in brown leather, and the windshield can be folded down for an even more airy atmosphere.
As noted, a project from EMC like this begins at $235,000. It’s a considerable investment, but the company has successfully sold numerous modified G-Classes from the early 1990s, indicating a strong demand for vehicles like this, even at prices higher than a brand-new G 63 AMG.
