
Aston Martin Introduces the New DB12 S, And It's Tougher Than You Might Expect | Carscoops
The DB12 S boasts an additional 20 horsepower along with several enhancements aimed at elevating the driving experience.
Aston Martin has introduced a more powerful and aggressive version of the DB12 S.
It now features an upgraded twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 690 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.
The car includes a quad exhaust and an optional titanium system, which help to reduce weight and enhance the sound.
Although James Bond may be taking a break, he might be interested in the new Aston Martin DB12 S. Positioned as the flagship of the DB series, it boasts an enhanced engine, an upgraded chassis, and a sportier aesthetic.
Under the hood, the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine has been fine-tuned to generate 690 hp (515 kW / 700 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, an increase of 20 hp (15 kW / 20 PS). This enhancement reduces the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time to just 3.4 seconds, while the top speed remains at 202 mph (325 km/h).
Part of the enhanced performance can be attributed to an optimized Launch Control system, which decreases gearshift times by more than 50% compared to the standard model. Moreover, engineers have adjusted the throttle calibration, introducing a more progressive throttle pedal response through a new S-specific drive-by-wire throttle map, offering drivers a greater sense of connection and control.
This improvement is just the beginning; the vehicle features a revised suspension with a stiffer rear anti-roll bar and refined camber, toe, and caster geometry settings. New software for the Bilstein DTX dampers has also been incorporated to better manage roll and pitch control.
Furthermore, the steering and electronic rear differential have been revised, promising enhanced connectivity and responsiveness for a more natural and intuitive driving experience.
A Fierce New Design
While the styling modifications are subtle, the DB12 S is set apart by a dual-element front splitter that visually lowers and widens the vehicle while providing additional downforce. It also features a ventilated hood, available with gloss black or twill carbon fiber louvres.
The lowered appearance is complemented by gloss black side skirts, and customers will find 21-inch wheels paired with a carbon ceramic braking system featuring discs that measure 16.1 inches (410 mm) in the front and 14.2 inches (360 mm) in the rear. This setup saves 60 lbs (27 kg) of unsprung weight compared to steel brakes while enhancing performance and thermal properties.
At the rear, a new spoiler and a more aggressive bumper are notable, with the latter housing a stacked stainless steel four-tailpipe exhaust system. Buyers can opt for a louder titanium exhaust, which reduces weight by an additional 25.8 lbs (11.7 kg).
An Enhanced Interior
The interior design changes include a striking red anodized rotary controller, 16-way power sport seats, and upholstery made of Alcantara and leather. Gloss black and dark satin chrome trim adds to the cabin's appeal.
A variety of options are available, such as carbon fiber performance seats and a heated Alcantara sports steering wheel. Customers can also choose to include a Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system, a garage door opener, and aluminum or wood trim.
The DB12 S will be available in both coupe and convertible formats, and Aston Martin is now taking orders, with deliveries expected to commence early next year.
