This model was to serve as the pinnacle of the Dodge Charger EV lineup, designed to overpower any criticism from muscle car purists with its formidable power and an 800-volt charging system. However, I use the term "was" because recent reports indicate that the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee has been scrapped. Stellantis appears to have eliminated the vehicle from its plans as the company reassesses its electric vehicle investments in favor of returning to traditional Hemi V8 engines.

This information was shared by MoparInsiders, which referenced "internal whispers from supplier channels." Stellantis did not overtly dispute this information and replied to the publication with the following statement:

“Stellantis continues to review its product strategy to better align with consumer demand. Our objective is to provide customers with a variety of vehicles that feature adaptable powertrain options tailored to their preferences. Following the exciting announcement in July about the revival of our renowned SRT performance division (Street and Racing Technology), it is natural that we are also reassessing plans for upcoming SRT models.”

The Drive also reached out to Stellantis for clarification and received the same response. Inferring from the statement, it seems the company is framing the cancellation of the Banshee as part of a "revised plan" for future SRT models without directly confirming the Banshee's demise. Nonetheless, the Banshee was intended to be the flagship Charger, and Dodge has been quite vocal about it until now. If the brand hadn’t publicly promoted the vehicle so extensively, it wouldn’t be in this situation, having to account for its disappearance.

The rumored cancellation of the Banshee coincides with Stellantis’ earlier decision to eliminate the more affordable electric Charger variant, the Daytona R/T, leaving only the $74,000, 670-hp Scat Pack. At the same time, Hurricane I6-powered Sixpack models are expected to arrive at dealerships by the end of the year. It seems likely that a V8 will also make its way under the hood soon, as it wouldn't be a challenge to fit.
