A rare F1 featuring Lewis Hamilton’s signature and a large rear wing is set to go to auction following a $500,000 renovation.

Originally belonging to the Sultan of Brunei, this 1994 McLaren F1 is exceptionally rare. It has been repainted in Ibis White and is equipped with the desirable High Downforce Kit. The vehicle underwent a $500,000 restoration, which included a LM-spec interior and OZ Racing wheels.

This supercar with royal lineage will be up for auction in December, and it’s sure to draw significant attention worldwide. While multiple McLaren F1s have emerged this year, this 1994 model is particularly notable due to its connection to the Sultan of Brunei’s famous collection. With estimates exceeding $21 million, it has the potential to become one of the most expensive F1s ever auctioned.

McLaren produced only 64 road-going versions of the F1, and this one is chassis number 014. It was originally finished in Titanium Yellow with a black leather and Alcantara interior. Unlike many other F1s from the Sultan's collection, this particular car was sold relatively quickly to a buyer in the UK before being acquired by David Clark, the former Director of McLaren Cars.

From Royal Ownership to Racing Prestige

An unnamed collector from New York owned the F1 for about three years before relocating to California. It changed hands in 2006, at which point it returned to McLaren’s headquarters for a restoration. During this overhaul, the vehicle was repainted in its current Ibis White and fitted with the exclusive high downforce kit, which features a large fixed rear wing, an F1 GTR-inspired front bumper, and front louvers similar to those of the F1 LM. Only eight units worldwide received this configuration.

The enhancements didn’t stop there. The car received a refined exhaust system, lightweight five-spoke OZ Racing wheels, and a complete LM-spec interior conversion. The total cost of these modifications exceeded $500,000, securing its status as one of the most extensively altered road-going F1s. Additionally, Lewis Hamilton signed the car during the 2007 Formula One season. After spending a significant portion of the last decade in the U.S., it is now owned by a Danish individual.

      Prepared for the Auction Stage

With 13,711 miles (22,065 km) on the odometer, the car is in excellent condition and will be auctioned alongside a Gordon Murray T.50 from the same collection. For collectors, this pairing represents a near-perfect dream garage, and the upcoming auction will likely demonstrate the high value that a piece of F1 history can command.
