Subaru Dealerships Will Soon Resemble Community Centers Instead of Car Showrooms | Carscoops
Visiting a Subaru dealership may soon resemble a trip to a coffee shop.
Subaru has introduced its first dealership redesign since 2007, featuring significant updates.
The new dealerships will become open and inviting "community destinations."
Guests can anticipate a store-like environment with vehicle displays and plenty of merchandise.
Subaru dealerships are undergoing their first overhaul in nearly 20 years, presenting a notable shift towards a more friendly and retail-oriented layout. The design resembles a blend of a Bass Pro shop and a car dealership.
This new concept, called the Subaru Connection Hub, was developed with input from ChangeUp. As the name suggests, the automaker aims to convert dealerships into “hospitality-driven spaces that enhance customer relationships and community bonds.”
A Fresh Welcome
The alterations begin outside, where dealerships will feature a “welcoming promenade” complete with stylish columns and outdoor seating. This design aims to foster an “open, inviting atmosphere that encourages warmth and exploration.”
The dealerships will incorporate large glass storefronts, promoting bright and airy showrooms. These glass fronts will showcase the “Big Blue statement wall,” which will include a local topographic design.
Additionally, outdoor green spaces will connect to the showroom and service area, envisioned to include amenities such as dog parks, family play areas, and relaxation spots.
Significant changes also occur inside, where revamped locations will resemble retail stores more than traditional dealerships. A key feature will be “lifestyle vehicle vignettes,” which will display Subaru cars in practical scenarios. Renderings depict a model parked on a rock to mimic off-roading, with another vehicle in the background featuring a roof-mounted tent, evoking camping memories.
These displays will be complemented by merchandise areas offering accessories and gear, including t-shirts, bags, water bottles, and dog toys.
The atmosphere is further enhanced by a “café-style gathering area with communal tables, comfortable seating, and a vibrant digital media wall showcasing Love Promise initiatives, community stories, and brand values.” This area will also have merchandise surrounding it, providing a cozy space to wait while service is performed.
To assist customers during the purchasing journey, dealerships will include a Customization Zone featuring a digital table. This will help visitors configure their ideal vehicle and discover available accessories. They will be presented with options that focus on personalization and ongoing product connections.
This shift marks a pleasing contrast to the usual cubicles and desks. Tim Stallings, Subaru of America’s VP of Retailer Development, stated, “The new Connection Hub reflects where our brand is today and our future direction, while reinforcing our long-standing commitment to our customers and communities through the Subaru Love Promise.” He emphasized that “this is more than just a design update – it transforms our retailers’ facilities into welcoming hubs for customers and communities to connect, collaborate, and celebrate their love for our brand.”
Enrollment for dealerships is now open, with the first Subaru Connection Hubs expected to open in 2026. However, it may take some time before the new design becomes widespread.
