Urus Catches Fire, Leading to Immediate Recalls for Lamborghini, Audi, and Porsche | Carscoops
A recent fire involving a Lamborghini SUV has prompted a quick but limited recall as automakers hurry to inspect and replace faulty fuel pump parts.
Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini are recalling 122 vehicles due to the potential for fire hazards. There is a concern that the high-pressure fuel pump may not have been secured correctly. A Lamborghini Urus recently experienced a fire, while another vehicle had a fuel leak into the sump.
Volkswagen, which owns some of the world's most esteemed brands, now faces a fuel pump recall affecting three of its manufacturers. Although the number of affected vehicles is small, the fire risk is significant.
Porsche is the most impacted, recalling 107 vehicles, including the Panamera, Panamera E-Hybrid, and Cayenne models from the 2024-2026 range. According to the authorities, the fasteners securing the high-pressure fuel pump might not have been adequately tightened, potentially leading to fuel leaks.
This poses a fire risk, which has already manifested in reality. Earlier this month, a vehicle fire was reported from another brand within the same group that shares engines produced on the same assembly line.
The fire involved a 2025 Lamborghini Urus, which emitted a fuel odor and a warning light. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but this incident was soon followed by another where a Urus had 4.2 gallons (16 liters) of gasoline inside the oil sump without any fire occurring.
The government agency indicated that the initial tightening procedure was not performed with the standard production tool due to a scanner malfunction. Consequently, the repair was mishandled as the necessary final tightening wasn’t executed correctly, resulting in a potentially loose connection between the fuel lines and pump.
The responsibility for the issue falls on Porsche, affecting 14 2025 Urus crossovers and one 2025 Audi SQ7. Although this amounts to a relatively small recall, it offers little comfort to the owners of these high-end performance vehicles that experienced a fire.
To rectify the situation, dealers will examine and tighten the connections as needed. Additionally, technicians will replace the high-pressure fuel pump and fuel lines if required.
