The initial price of the new Q3 Sportback in Germany is €1,850 ($2,200) higher than that of the standard Q3.

Audi has expanded its Q3 lineup by introducing the Sportback version.

The Q3 Sportback features a more attractive rear design, but it shares most components with the regular Q3.

Available powertrains include a plug-in hybrid option with 268 hp and a maximum electric-only range of 72 miles.

Update: We have included live images from the Munich Motor Show, as press photos are nice, but seeing the Q3 Sportback in action is unparalleled.

Audi is enhancing its compact range with a more stylish design. Following the launch of the third-generation Q3, the manufacturer has introduced the Q3 Sportback, adding it to the coupe-SUV lineup alongside Sportback versions of the Q4 E-Tron, Q5, Q6 E-Tron, and Q8 E-Tron.

As anticipated, the Q3 Sportback retains most body panels from the Q3, though the roofline and greenhouse have been altered to create a flowing rear window. Audi designers have also removed roof rails from the standard model to achieve a sportier look.

      Sportier Design

The full-width taillights featuring optional digital OLED graphics and the sporty rear bumper with faux intakes and a prominent diffuser have been carried over from the regular Q3. According to Audi, the coupe-SUV is 29 mm (1.1 inches) shorter than its more traditional counterpart. Overall, both models have a sportier and more modern appearance compared to their predecessors.

Inside, the dashboard remains similar to the Q3, featuring a curved panel that houses an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch infotainment display, along with redesigned stalks. However, the decreased roofline at the rear has affected passenger and luggage space.

Specifically, the Q3 Sportback offers a maximum cargo capacity of 1,298 liters (45.5 cubic feet) with the back seats folded down, which is 97 liters (3.4 cubic feet) less than the standard Q3. However, Audi has not disclosed the boot capacity with all five seats in use, so it remains unclear if it is smaller than the 488 liters (17.2 cubic feet) of its sibling.

      Wide Range of Powertrains

Both Q3 variants offer the same range of engines, including gasoline, diesel, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. The base 1.5-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine produces 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS), while the top-of-the-line 2.0 TFSI engine delivers up to 262 hp (195 kW / 265 PS). Power is distributed to the front wheels or all four wheels through Audi's quattro system, depending on the variant.

Finally, the plug-in hybrid (e-Hybrid) produces a total of 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and is equipped with a 25.7 kWh battery pack. The zero-emission range is almost identical, as the Sportback can drive just 1 km (0.6 miles) less between charges compared to the standard Q3, with a WLTP rating of 118 km (72 miles).

The MQB Evo-based SUVs can be equipped with either standard or sport suspension and feature the latest driver assistance technology.

      Availability and Pricing

Audi has not confirmed a North American launch for the new Q3, but it is anticipated to arrive as a 2026 model year. In Europe, orders are currently being accepted, with initial deliveries scheduled for October for the Q3 and November for the Q3 Sportback. Its availability in the U.S. remains uncertain, especially since the previous generation of the Q3 Sportback did not make it across the Atlantic.

In Germany, the base Q3 starts at €44,600 ($52,200), while the Q3 Sportback begins at €46,450 ($54,300). The plug-in hybrid versions start at €49,300 ($57,700) and €51,150 ($59,800) respectively.
