Porsche Electric Vehicles Finally Gain Access to Superchargers, But There's an Annoying Catch | Carscoops

Owners of Taycan models from 2024 and earlier will have access to Tesla Superchargers starting September 9 across North America.

Owners of the 2025 and 2026 models will receive the NACS DC adapter at no cost.

In late 2023, Porsche announced that its upcoming electric vehicles would begin incorporating NACS ports starting in 2025.

Initially, charging will be available solely through the Tesla app as part of a soft launch.

For electric Porsche owners in North America, public charging is about to become significantly simpler. Beginning September 9, owners will have the opportunity to utilize the Tesla Supercharger network, granting them access to 23,500 charging locations throughout the continent, made possible by a new NACS DC adapter.

This newly created adapter will be offered free to owners of the 2026 Porsche Taycan and Macan Electric models. Owners of the current 2025 Taycan and Macan Electric can also receive a complimentary adapter via the My Porsche application.

Owners of a 2024 or older Taycan will also be able to use the NACS DC charger but will need to pay $185 and order it from the Porsche Online Shop or collect it from a Porsche center.

      Getting Started

Access to the Tesla Supercharger network will commence with a soft launch, requiring Porsche owners to use the Tesla app to initiate charging. In the following months, it will be possible to charge directly through the My Porsche app. Other charging stations from Ionna and Electrify America with NACS ports can be activated directly through the My Porsche app during the launch.

      Charging Made Easy

All eligible Porsche electric vehicles from 2026 onwards will integrate the new charging stations into their navigation systems, while older models will receive over-the-air software updates to display the newly available charging points.

“We are constantly striving to make every aspect of Porsche ownership as convenient as possible for our customers – and this announcement signifies a major advancement for owners of our electric vehicles,” stated Timo Resch, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “As we roll out this offering, we will be adding more features in the coming months to enhance the process even further.”

Why an Adapter Is Still Necessary

Interestingly, both the 2026 Taycan and the 2026 Macan Electric do not include the North American Charging Standard port, which is why an adapter is required. This is noteworthy despite the confirmation in 2023 that future VW, Audi, Porsche, and Scout electric vehicles would adopt the NACS charging port starting in 2025.
