A 1966 Mustang body has been fitted onto a 2008 Porsche 911 chassis.
The odd proportions lead to a lengthy front overhang and compact fender details.
For $19K, you can have a six-speed 997 encapsulated in classic Mustang bodywork.
Modern car culture often produces vehicles that are hard to categorize. We've covered everything from extensively modified convertibles to everyday cars that have been repurposed. Body swaps constitute a distinct category, with some being highly refined and others more apparent. This combination of a 1966 Ford Mustang and a 2008 Porsche 911 falls into the second category and is available for an impressive $19,500.
At first glance, this might seem like a hot-rodder’s wild imagination, merging Porsche’s handling, interior comforts, and an attractive exterior into one vehicle. However, the proportions leave many questioning how the project progressed this far. The 911 is three inches wider than the Mustang and boasts a wheelbase that is 15.5 inches shorter.
To make these two vehicles fit together, the builder had to relocate the front wheel arches significantly further back, resulting in a comically elongated front overhang, akin to a Borzoi’s snout. This pony car appears to be reaching for a sugar cube. The awkward proportions don’t end there.
Underneath, it's still a 911, which means the fuel filler cap needs to be placed on the front fender. This fact adds to the oddity, especially since the filler cap needs to align with a preexisting arch. The fenders at the corners feature large flares to accommodate the much wider Porsche chassis and track. It's unclear how the builder managed the cooling system, but it would be interesting to learn.
Not every element of this build seems like a poorly conceived idea. The interior, for instance, looks impressive. It's nearly all Porsche, which is a significant advantage. The chassis has only 53,000 miles (85,295 kilometers) on it, and the stock engine produces around 380 horsepower, sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
The seller notes that the “interior/frunk needs finishing work,” but the major tasks are completed. Is this a smart buy? It’s hard to say for certain, but if your aim is to attract attention faster than you can navigate corners, this Mustang-911 hybrid is a solid choice.
If you’ve ever wanted a Mustang that appears to have stepped out of a funhouse mirror, and missed out on the ultimate body swap (when someone placed a Mustang body on a Lamborghini Gallardo), this is your chance. Check out the listing here and determine whether it’s genius, madness, or perhaps a bit of both.
