Authorities indicated that the incident was "entirely accidental" and it is improbable that the man will face charges.

The driver informed police that he believed he had securely placed his vehicle in Park.

An eyewitness reported that the driver chased after the vehicle in a frantic effort to stop it.

Five of the six individuals injured in the accident were taken to local hospitals.

In Pittsburgh, six people were injured when a runaway Kia Soul rolled into a crowd during a neighborhood festival, with three individuals in serious but stable condition at local hospitals. This incident interrupted what was a vibrant community gathering and brought up concerns regarding how the vehicle became unattended and started moving.

Local officials were alerted to the scene on Broad Street and Centre Avenue in the East Liberty neighborhood just before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, following reports of a car hitting a group of festival-goers. Upon arrival, police found the owner of the Kia still present, confirming that no one was driving the vehicle when it began to roll.

Regarding the vehicle's movement, police stated that the male owner was cooperative and believed he had put the vehicle in park before stepping away. Investigators noted that he may have overlooked this or the car might have unintentionally slipped out of gear and started to roll. This incident highlights the importance of utilizing the parking brake whenever a vehicle is left unattended.

The Kia hit five women and one man. Five of those individuals were taken to local hospitals, with three in serious but stable condition and two in stable condition. The sixth adult who was struck by the car was assessed at the scene but chose not to be taken to a hospital for treatment.

As recounted by Ricco J.L. Martello, a photographer at the event, the driver of the Kia chased after the vehicle in a desperate attempt to prevent it from hitting anyone.

“I raised the camera to snap a photo,” he told WTAE. “And next thing I know, I see the car coming up in lanes. I dropped the camera, and it was…already too late. They were getting hit.”

Police have suggested that charges are unlikely, characterizing the crash as a “purely accidental” occurrence.
