The company is investigating the incorporation of simulated sounds and gear shifts to enhance the emotional and immersive experience of its first electric vehicle (EV).

Aston Martin plans to release its first EV within this decade, utilizing technology derived from Lucid.

They are considering artificial internal combustion engine sounds and simulated gear transitions for their electric vehicles.

It remains uncertain whether the EV will be a sports car or a crossover.

Aston Martin has been progressively preparing for its electric future. In mid-2023, the brand entered a strategic long-term partnership with Lucid to gain access to its advanced electric motors and battery systems.

Although the debut of its first EV is still a few years away, Aston Martin is already contemplating ways to make it unique, even looking at systems similar to those used in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N to maintain its distinctive driving essence.

At present, Aston Martin is concentrating on the release of its inaugural plug-in hybrid, the limited-edition, mid-engine Valhalla. This vehicle aims to compete with new hypercars like the McLaren W1 and Ferrari F80 but at a significantly lower price. It is expected to be Aston Martin’s last all-new model before introducing an EV into its lineup, which is anticipated sometime this decade.

During Monterey Car Week, Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s chief creative officer, spoke about the company's electric vision in an interview with CarBuzz. When questioned about features like simulated gear changes and sound profiles similar to internal combustion engines, Reichman did not reject the concept.

“If it benefits the driving performance capabilities of our cars, making it authentic and real, and we can implement a system that allows the driver to feel more connected emotionally, then yes,” he mentioned. He stressed that such systems must feel genuine and enhance the driving experience.

“If it’s purely artificial, then no,” he stated. “Because an Aston Martin is genuine; it’s authentic. Very few companies in the Formula One realm produce road cars. We have a significant advantage. Consider the insights and data we are collecting and how we can leverage that to create a more thrilling road car. Whether it involves gears or employing torque vectoring to enhance engagement, we are dedicated to ensuring an exhilarating driving experience.”

Since Aston Martin’s first EV is still some time away, its eventual form remains uncertain. The British manufacturer might choose to position it as a direct competitor to the Ferrari Elettrica, which is developing as a crossover, or they may opt to create a fully electric sports car or supercar.
