The upcoming Elantra will maintain availability with internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrid, and LPG powertrains.
The eighth generation of the Elantra will feature completely redesigned front and rear fascias.
Some elements of the new sedan’s rear resemble the Kia EV4 sedan.
There is a strong likelihood that a high-performance N version will also be introduced.
Hyundai is currently developing the next-generation Elantra, and a heavily camouflaged prototype recently spotted on the streets of South Korea gives us a great glimpse of it. Although the current seventh generation has only been on the market for five years, the brand has previously produced the fifth and sixth generations for that same duration, so a new model is well-timed.
What will set this new model apart from its predecessor? To start, Hyundai will make significant updates to the sedan’s design, and unfortunately for those who have never favored the bold shape of the current model, this prototype and recently released renderings suggest that the completely new Elantra will feature a design that is just as divisive as its predecessor.
The front will be equipped with a full-width LED light bar alongside angular LED daytime running lights. The primary headlights will be situated on the lower parts of the bumper. A large, square grille is anticipated, characterized by sharp angles and a lack of soft curves or creases.
The side profile of the new Elantra appears significantly different as well. A squared-off rear window and a tailgate positioned higher than the current model create a rear that somewhat resembles the new electric Kia EV4 sedan. Additionally, there are new vertical brake lights, and possibly a light bar connecting them.
According to the Korean Car Blog, similar to the current model, the new Elantra will be available with a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and hybrid options. In certain markets, an LPG-powered version is also being planned. While there has been no confirmation regarding a new Elantra N, considering the popularity of the current version, it would be surprising if a second-generation model is not introduced.
Hyundai is expected to reveal the new Elantra next year, with sales beginning afterward, depending on the market.
