The Infiniti QX80 Concept Appears Prepared to Compete with the Escalade-V | Carscoops
Infiniti has introduced two concept models based on the full-size QX80 platform, namely the sporty QX80 Track Spec and the rugged Terrain Spec, targeting the overlanding community.
The Track Spec concept features a twin-turbo V6 engine that delivers over 650 hp and 750 lb-ft of torque, marking a significant improvement over the standard model's 450 hp and 516 lb-ft. This model is positioned as a potential competitor to the Cadillac Escalade-V, equipped with an enhanced 3.5-liter V6 engine, new turbochargers, and a modified exhaust. In addition to the engine upgrades, it boasts improved fuel injectors, a larger intercooler, and a ram air intake, all of which indicate production feasibility.
Visually, the Track Spec sports an aggressive design with a body kit that includes a front splitter, extended side skirts, and prominent fender flares, along with unique intakes and revised fender vents, complemented by a grille from the QX80 Sport. It also features a four-tailpipe exhaust system, a sporty diffuser, a black and blue wrap, and 24-inch wheels paired with a Brembo braking system.
On the other hand, the QX80 Terrain Spec targets the Lexus LX 700h Overtrail and has been designed as a luxurious off-roader. While specific details are sparse, it includes front and rear skid plates, greater ride height, pronounced fender flares, and rugged wheels with all-terrain tires. Additional features include limb risers leading to a roof-mounted platform equipped with a light bar and a pop-up tent, enhancing its overlanding capabilities.
Tiago Castro, vice president of Infiniti Americas, stated that the “QX80 Track Spec and Terrain Spec reflect two distinct client mindsets – those who crave thrilling on-road performance and those who seek confident capability far beyond the pavement." These concepts represent Infiniti's strategy to quickly explore what appeals most to customers while advancing into the premium SUV market.
