The Updated VW SUV Might Be Confused For A Stellantis Model | Carscoops
The China-exclusive Tavendor was launched in 2022, and Volkswagen has deemed it appropriate to implement a subtle update.
The refresh includes updated styling features and a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter engine producing 270 hp.
This SUV maintains its position between the Tayron and Talagon in VW's local lineup.
Keeping up with Volkswagen's growing SUV range can be challenging, especially with various region-specific models like those exclusive to China. One of these is the full-size Tavendor, which is now undergoing a mid-cycle update three years after its initial launch.
The updated 2026 Tavendor was quietly unveiled through a listing on the website of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, providing a first glance at the styling revisions and enhanced powertrain options. This SUV is produced by FAW-Volkswagen and is offered alongside the larger Talagon in the company's Chinese offerings.
VW's designers have worked on the Tavendor, resulting in a look that now resembles products from the Stellantis group. The chrome detailing along the hood’s shut line recalls the previous Peugeot 3008, while the grille featuring a protruding emblem is somewhat similar to the new Citroen C5 Aircross.
The exterior modifications give the Tavendor a more defined presence, although its overall design now aligns closely with what one might expect from Stellantis. The chrome trim along the hood's shut line mirrors the styling of the previous-generation Peugeot 3008, and the new grille shape, with a protruding emblem, evokes features from the latest Citroen C5 Aircross.
At the front, the lower section of the grille has been eliminated, now featuring vertical air intakes integrated into the bumper. The headlight units have retained their shape but received updates to their internals for a more contemporary look. The profile design remains unchanged, while the rear has received subtle enhancements with new graphics for the full-width LED taillights. The exhaust outlets are now concealed for a sleeker appearance.

The R Line variant of the Tavendor introduces sportier design touches. These include a more aggressive lower intake with honeycomb mesh, distinctive alloy wheels, and a body-colored rear bumper insert. It also retains some features from the outgoing model, such as roof rails and an available contrasting roof.
As with most SUVs from the VW Group, the Tavendor utilizes the MQB Evo architecture. The refreshed model measures 5,007 mm (197.1 inches) in length, which is 50 mm longer than its predecessor. Its wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,980 mm (117.3 inches), along with all other dimensions.
An intriguing update is that the flagship Tavendor 450 TSI now features a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 270 hp (200 kW / 272 PS), which is an increase of 50 hp (37 kW) compared to the previous version, promising enhanced performance. Additionally, the 380 TSI model returns, equipped with a different 2.0-liter turbo engine that generates 211 hp (157 kW / 214 PS).
The 2026 Tavendor will be available solely in China, with production managed by FAW-Volkswagen. There are currently no intentions to export it to international markets.
