In 2025, America made a strong statement against Porsche, with Team Chevy delivering impressive lap times at the Nürburgring.
On Thursday, General Motors revealed that the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X achieved a lap time of 6:49.275 at Nürburgring. This time not only surpasses the Ford Mustang GTD’s record of 6:52.072, the first American vehicle to break the 7-minute barrier at the ‘Ring, but it also outperformed the Porsche 911 GT3’s time of 6:49.328.
Furthermore, Team Chevy bested the Mustang GTD a second time with the Corvette ZR1, which recorded a lap time of 6:50.763.
As a result, the Corvette ZR1X is positioned just below the Mercedes-Benz AMG Black Series in terms of lap times at the ‘Ring, with the AMG clocking in at 6:48.047.
In addition to the ZR1X being believed to be significantly more affordable than the Mustang GTD, the ZR1 is priced about $156,000 less than the Ford it just bested at the ‘Ring, which raises questions about how GM achieved this.
While most manufacturers employ professional race drivers to push their cars to the limit at the ‘Ring, which can be dangerous,
Chevrolet
GM chose a different approach. A team of three Corvette engineers drove the Corvette ZR1X, ZR1, and Z06 to set their impressive lap times.
The entire event was captured on video and is available to view above.
One might wonder if a professional race car driver could have achieved even quicker times with the powerful Corvettes at the Green Hell.
For now, America has made its mark and showcased its prowess on a Thursday in 2025.
