Don't look away, but a new Hyundai Tucson is approaching. It might seem like the latest version just debuted a couple of years ago, but its redesign actually began at the onset of the pandemic, making a 2027 or 2028 update right on track. According to our sources, this is the prototype.
Although this fifth-generation Tucson (chassis code NX5) still has a significant amount of camouflage, the overall shape is becoming apparent—and it appears more angular than the current model. This isn't surprising since it's a clear shift towards the adventurous aesthetic Hyundai has been adopting in recent redesigns.
We don't anticipate much excitement from the engine options of the new Tucson. It will likely reflect the current model's choices, starting with a naturally aspirated four-cylinder as the base engine and a plug-in hybrid as the premium option. With turbocharging declining in popularity within the compact SUV segment, we’re not fully convinced that a turbocharged variant will be offered without some hybrid support, unless Hyundai chooses to provide an efficiency-focused turbo for its lower-tier models.
Regardless of how this develops, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for more information. We are expected to learn more within the next year.
