The five-door 2027 Chevy Bolt is anticipated to be among the most budget-friendly electric vehicles available in the US market.

Chevrolet has unveiled a series of exciting teasers for the upcoming generation of the Bolt EV.

The entry-level electric hatchback is set to make its full debut later this year as part of the 2027 model year lineup. It promises design enhancements, a NACS port, and “some other cool features.”

After a short break, Chevrolet's well-loved electric hatchback is on the verge of returning. General Motors is revamping the affordable Bolt, pledging that it will be "better than ever" in the 2027 model year collection. The teasers for this new version provide a more insightful preview than previous ones, although the design seems to be more of a significant refresh rather than a complete redesign.

One thing to note is that while Chevrolet has confirmed the full reveal of the Bolt EV this year, the 2027 model year designation likely indicates that it will launch in the market in 2026.

In December 2023, GM CEO Mary Barra announced that a new Bolt generation would be unveiled in 2025, accompanied by a mysterious teaser focusing on the model’s badge on the tailgate. Subsequent reports in 2024 suggested a return of the Bolt as a full range of electric vehicles. This time, however, Chevrolet has shared clearer images that better indicate what's on the way.

Unlike the typical dimly-lit teasers, the latest images showcase the 2027 Bolt in bright conditions, fully unveiled. At the front, it features sleek LED headlights that sport a well-known but more bold look. These headlights are paired with a slim grille bearing the Chevrolet logo, while the lower bumper has a textured finish and a honeycomb-style cooling intake.

At the rear, the taillights have adopted a more standard shape compared to the previous model and are no longer connected to the rear glass. The updated NACS charging port on the front fender is also visible, allowing Bolt drivers to access Tesla’s Supercharger network. The black trim extending from the headlights remains a signature design element carried over from earlier models.

      Design Modifications and Technological Enhancements

Chevrolet describes the Bolt as “the first long-range, mass-produced EV accessible to customers at a genuinely affordable price.” The company reports that the upcoming version will enhance that legacy with updates to the front design, rear lights, and charging equipment—along with “some other exciting features” to be announced later.

The combination of statements and visuals suggests that the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt will be a significantly redesigned version of the original model that first appeared in late 2016 and underwent a mid-cycle refresh in 2021 before being discontinued in late 2023.

While initial reports indicated that the new Bolt would transition to GM’s Ultium platform (which is no longer referenced by that name), it seems the vehicle will continue to utilize an updated version of its previous BEV2 architecture. This modified platform aims to incorporate newer technology, and GM is expected to use a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack to help manage costs.

Production of the previous Bolt EV and EUV ended in late 2023 at the Orion Assembly plant located in Michigan. The new model is set to be manufactured at the Fairfax facility in Kansas City.

Chevrolet indicates that more details about the 2027 Bolt will be revealed in the coming months. A full presentation is anticipated before the end of the year, though it remains uncertain whether deliveries will commence this year or early in 2026. Pricing is expected to be slightly higher than that of the outgoing model, which started at $28,795.
