Supplier Error Brings Ford Near Its 100th Recall | Carscoops
Thousands of Lincoln Aviators are being recalled due to side windows that may pinch rear seat passengers.
Lincoln is recalling over 23,000 Aviators because of defective door module software.
The issue arises when the rear side windows come into contact with an obstacle; they fail to reverse as they should.
Dealers will update the software, which will eliminate the global window close function.
Ford is approaching a significant milestone, being just nine recalls away from issuing their 100th this year. Today, this unfortunate milestone was brought closer due to a problem affecting 23,111 SUVs.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2025 Lincoln Aviators have rear side windows that might not automatically reverse when they hit an object. This poses a risk for rear seat passengers, especially children, who could accidentally pinch their fingers.
When owners try to close all windows using the key fob or LincolnWay app, if the rear side windows meet an object, they may apply an upward force that is unexpectedly high. They are supposed to reverse automatically, but this upward force could exceed the limits set by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Ford became aware of the problem in May, prompting an investigation that revealed a supplier had mistakenly activated a feature in the door module software that wasn't meant for the Aviator. This miscalibration of parameters led to the issue.
The automaker reports no known injuries or accidents related to the recall. Since this is a software issue, the solution is fairly simple. Owners will need to bring their vehicles to the dealership, where technicians will update the door module software and its configuration.
However, as a result of the update, owners will lose the global close window feature. Notifications to owners are expected to be sent out in mid-September.
