Ford Delivered Its Quickest Mustang Ever Directly To Jay Leno | Carscoops

      The former Tonight Show host recently received his Ford Mustang GTD, the twelfth of its kind, which was personally delivered by Ford CEO Jim Farley.

      During the delivery, Farley spoke about the design and development of the car. Leno seems to be quite impressed with the vehicle, which boasts a supercharged V8 engine with 815 hp.

      The Ford Mustang GTD is gradually reaching its owners, and Jay Leno has just taken possession of the twelfth unit. Although it might be unexpected that the renowned talk show host didn’t receive a model with a lower VIN, Leno mentioned that his Ford GTs also share the same number.

      Following a brief introduction, Leno welcomed Ford CEO Jim Farley, and they discussed the car and its development. Farley described this model as a decade-long project, mentioning that they have always envisioned a high-performance Mustang but could only compete at Le Mans once the rules allowed for it.

      Leno and Farley went on to discuss various features, including the Performance package on Leno’s car. This add-on includes several aerodynamic enhancements, such as canards, underbody flaps, and a drag reduction system, alongside a distinctive front fascia and a larger front splitter. It also features 20-inch magnesium wheels and has some sound-deadening materials removed to decrease weight.

      As noted by Farley, the Performance package was essential in allowing the Mustang GTD to be the first American car to complete a lap at the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, achieving a time of 6:57:685 with Dirk Müller driving.

      On the topic of driving, Leno expressed his admiration for the car, stating, “If you’re finding the limits of this thing on a public road, you’re going to jail.” He highlighted the GTD’s excellent visibility and steering, along with a nimble and lightweight feel. The former TV host also mentioned that the car justifies its six-figure price, despite some considering it “ridiculous” for a Mustang.

      While Leno intends to take it easy as he breaks in his new car, the Mustang GTD is equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine delivering 815 hp (608 kW / 826 PS) and 664 lb-ft (899 Nm) of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, allowing the vehicle to reach a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).
