Zeekr's EV Was Designed for High Speed, But Now It Can Withstand Bullets Too | Carscoops
The first armored Zeekr 001 is reportedly in Brazil, arriving 8 hours ago.
This is thought to be the initial armored version of the electric Zeekr 001.
Brazil holds the top position in the ownership of civilian bulletproof vehicles due to high crime rates.
Zeekr offers the 001 with options for 95 or 100 kWh batteries and up to 1,248 hp.
Electric vehicles are advancing rapidly, and in Brazil, their development is influenced by factors beyond environmental issues. With crime and carjackings being common, there is a growing demand for armored vehicles, making Brazil the country with the largest civilian fleet of bulletproof cars. Even Toyota provides factory-armored Corollas and Hiluxes. Now, one of China's emerging EV brands is entering this market, complete with armor.

It has not been long since Zeekr made its debut in the EV market, quickly becoming one of the most captivating new manufacturers from China. As it increases its sales locally, it is also rapidly expanding internationally, including into South America, where a particularly noteworthy version of one of its EVs was recently seen.
This specific Zeekr is an instance of its inaugural model, the 001. Launched a few years back and updated in early 2024 with improved range and additional features, the 001 is a stylish estate that's both luxurious and extremely fast in its flagship FR configuration. However, this specific 001 is making news not for its speed or design.
An Electric Estate, Now with Ballistic Protection
Instead, this Zeekr 001 is thought to be the first armored version produced. Recently spotted on the streets of Brazil, the all-black Zeekr appears completely ordinary from the outside. Nevertheless, all its panels have been armored, thick bulletproof windows have been installed, and the panoramic glass roof has been reinforced.
While there is no information on which company carried out the modifications, the owner of this Zeekr must be quite significant to warrant the necessity of driving around in a bulletproof EV. We do not have any images of the vehicle’s undercarriage, but it is assumed that it has also been fortified to ensure the battery pack can resist any explosions from below.
All 001 models are built on an 800-volt platform, offering a choice between a basic 95 kWh LFP battery and a larger 100 kW NMC pack. Entry-level versions come equipped with a 416 hp electric motor powering the rear wheels, while all-wheel-drive variants add a 362 hp motor to the front axle. The flagship 001 FR elevates the performance to a different level, delivering a combined output of 1,248 hp and 944 lb-ft (1,280 Nm), enabling it to accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.07 seconds.
