Miami police apprehended a wanted felon following a brief pursuit that concluded with a crash and several serious charges.

The suspect, a Miami man, mocked the police with "psych" before fleeing a traffic stop and colliding with a nearby vehicle.

He struck a semi-truck, attempted to escape on foot, but was injured and swiftly apprehended.

At the time of the traffic stop, he was already wanted on eight warrants.

Evading the police is rarely a good idea. Even those who manage to escape initially often find themselves back in custody shortly afterward. Most don’t even get that far. This makes it particularly audacious to taunt an officer before making an attempt to flee, leading some to see it as karmic justice when the taunter ends up detained soon after.

In this instance, the individual who taunted the police was identified as 42-year-old Eduardo Barbaro Gonzalez, according to Miami authorities. Officers reportedly tried to pull over Mr. Gonzalez in his Dodge Charger after allegedly witnessing what seemed to be a hand-to-hand drug deal. When they approached and informed him he was not free to leave, Gonzalez signaled that he had other intentions.

A Brief Escape with a Loud Conclusion

As reported by WPLG, the suspect exchanged some remarks with the officer, then chuckled and said “hahaha, sike!” (or “psych”) before speeding away. This interaction occurred at 2280 NW 28th Street, near a small store where officers had originally spotted Gonzalez. He did not get far, crashing just two blocks later into a semi-truck at the intersection of NW 23rd Avenue and NW 23rd Street.

Ironically, Gonzalez collided with a truck that had another police officer directly behind it. Authorities stated he attempted to run away on foot after the crash but was unable due to a leg injury.

Identity Issues and a Lengthy Criminal Record

Subsequently, police transported the suspect to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he allegedly provided a false name and date of birth. It was only when an officer employed a fingerprint scanner on Mr. Gonzalez that they discovered his true identity.

It turns out he was already a wanted felon with eight active warrants before the brief pursuit. Ultimately, he was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a range of charges, including resisting an officer, fleeing, robbery, battery, assault, grand theft, burglary, possession of cocaine, criminal mischief, and more. Clearly, he is facing significant legal consequences.
