The 2027 X5 moves away from a conventional instrument cluster, introducing a brand-new Panoramic iDrive display.
Spy photographers have recently captured images of the interior of the 2027 X5, ahead of its anticipated launch next year.
Key features include a newly designed steering wheel, a Panoramic iDrive display, and a more angular infotainment system.
This revamped crossover will offer a variety of powertrains, including gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, hydrogen, and electric options.
X5 prototypes have frequently been seen in Germany and Northern Europe, but previously, there was limited visibility into the cabin. This has now changed, as spy photographers succeeded in taking several photos of the interior.
Although much of the interior is covered in black fabric, it is evident that the crossover will feature the Panoramic iDrive. This marks a significant change, as the conventional instrument cluster will be replaced with a sleek display that spans from pillar to pillar, located at the base of the windshield.
The prototype’s display appears quite rough, though BMW has revealed a more refined version divided into three sections. This includes a digital instrument cluster in front of the driver and two additional areas that can be personalized with up to six widgets.
These widgets are expected to include various functionalities such as compass and weather displays, along with audio and navigation information. Performance-related widgets like a G Meter and displays for current power and torque outputs are also anticipated.
The prototype features a new steering wheel with two-tone contrast stitching. Although there isn’t much detail visible, the steering wheel will incorporate haptic buttons to replace the traditional iDrive controller.
Additionally, the X5 will have a sizable central display, which appears to be designed to mask its actual form with a bulky case. Nonetheless, its angular lines suggest a unique shape.
The infotainment system will operate on Operating System X, which is geared towards enhanced personalization. An improved Intelligent Personal Assistant is also expected, utilizing Large Language Models to facilitate more natural driver communication.
While additional features are difficult to discern, glimpses of new door panels with downward-angled armrests and a row of minimalist switches positioned in front of the armrest are visible.
The exterior presents a striking new design inspired by the Neue Klasse X Concept, featuring a revamped grille and headlight design.
The images also reveal a large lower intake and a four-tailpipe exhaust system. Coupled with the vibrant accent colors on the steering wheel, these elements suggest this might be the new X5 M60i.
BMW has remained discreet regarding this upcoming model, but it is anticipated to be built on an updated version of the CLAR platform, which integrates some features from the Neue Klasse. The crossover is also expected to offer a range of powertrains, including gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, hydrogen, and electric. There are also rumors of a range-extended iX5 REx, boasting a combined range of approximately 621 miles (1,000 km).
