The Opel Mokka GSE features bold styling, an updated suspension, and offers 278 hp.
Opel has introduced the Mokka GSE, its fastest and most dynamic electric model so far.
This compact SUV comes with sporty bumpers, yellow brake calipers, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
A 278 hp motor powers the front wheels, supported by a custom chassis and suspension system.
Electric performance vehicles are gaining traction, and in Europe, Stellantis has quietly developed a varied lineup across its brands. This includes the Abarth 600e, the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce, the Lancia Ypsilon HF, and the upcoming Peugeot 208 GTI. Opel now adds a sportier version of the Mokka to this collection.
This electric model marks the launch of Opel’s refreshed GSE sub-brand with enhanced styling and performance upgrades.
The fastest electric Opel (known as Vauxhall in the UK) thus far has a more aggressive appearance than the standard Mokka, drawing inspiration from the GSE Rally prototype unveiled last May. Black accents on the front and rear bumpers highlight the air intakes, and GSE branding on the grille and side panels indicates its performance orientation. Notably, it features striking 20-inch alloy wheels with an aerodynamic design and bright yellow brake calipers that stand out on a compact SUV.
Inside, the enhancements continue. The front seats are covered in Alcantara and designed for added support, complemented by matching door inserts. A redesigned steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and white and yellow highlights distinguish the GSE from its more subdued counterparts. The dual 10-inch screens in the digital cockpit now feature performance-oriented graphics specific to this model, providing real-time data while driving.
Performance Rivals Competitors
Powering the vehicle is a single electric motor generating 278 horsepower (207 kW or 280 PS) and 345 Nm (254.5 lb-ft) of torque. These specifications align with the top versions of the Abarth and Alfa Romeo models, as well as the earlier GSE Rally concept. The front wheels are tasked with managing this power, aided by a Torsen limited-slip differential.
Opel asserts that the Mokka GSE can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed capped at 200 km/h (124 mph). This makes the Mokka GSE faster than the more powerful yet heavier Grandland Electric AWD.
In addition to nearly doubling the power of the standard Mokka Electric, the GSE features a distinctive chassis configuration. The suspension has been lowered by 10 mm and is equipped with dual hydraulic shock absorbers for improved damping. The rear axle is firmer, the steering has been recalibrated, and braking power comes from Alcon brakes with 380 mm discs and four-piston calipers.
The Mokka GSE utilizes the same 54 kWh lithium-ion battery found in the regular Mokka Electric. However, due to performance upgrades and additional hardware, the WLTP range is expected to be lower than the standard model’s 406 km (252 miles). Despite this, the GSE maintains a weight of under 1,600 kg (3,527 pounds), which is commendable for an all-electric crossover with such performance capabilities.
Details regarding the market launch and pricing of the Opel Mokka GSE in Europe will be revealed in the coming months. The model will also be available in the UK, though under Vauxhall branding.
