The Cayenne-based prototype suggests Bentley's electric future

A prototype for Bentley’s forthcoming electric crossover has been spotted at the Nürburgring.

This model is derived from the Porsche Cayenne Electric, but the final production version will feature a distinctive design.

The Luxury Urban SUV is set to be unveiled next year, with production starting in 2027.

Earlier this month, Bentley revealed their first electric vehicle, which elicited varied reactions. While the initial feedback on the EXP 15 concept was not very positive, the brand used it to investigate the concept of a crossover-style ultra-luxury sedan.

Though the concept hinted at a new design language for the brand, it will not enter production. Instead, Bentley's inaugural production EV will be a “Luxury Urban SUV.”

Recently, the enigmatic crossover has shifted its development focus from Northern Europe to the Nürburgring. Unfortunately, the prototype remains based on the forthcoming Porsche Cayenne Electric, providing limited insights into the Bentley, aside from its unmistakable British license plates.

Last year, Bentley launched their Beyond100+ strategic plan and announced a commitment to becoming fully electric by 2035. The electric crossover will spearhead this initiative and will share many features with the Cayenne.

Porsche has been actively marketing the upcoming model, stating that it will "combine performance, everyday usability, long-distance comfort, and off-road capability compellingly." The vehicle will utilize the PPE platform and has a maximum towing capacity of 7,716 lbs (3,500 kg). Additionally, it will include an Active Ride system that ensures the body remains level at all times, even during intense braking, steering, and acceleration.

One of the significant uncertainties revolves around performance specifications, but the Macan Electric provides some clues. Its output ranges from 355 hp (265 kW / 360 PS) to 630 hp (470 kW / 639 PS). Customers will also benefit from a 100 kWh battery pack, which offers EPA-estimated ranges of 288 to 315 miles (463 to 507 km).

The crossover is anticipated to debut next year, with production slated to begin in 2027. Bentley has registered the Barnato and Mayon names, suggesting potential names for the model. Applications for both names indicate they could be utilized for electric vehicles and other automotive-related products.
