New Electric Isuzu Pickup Arrives With an Astonishing Price Tag | Carscoops
The company asserts that the D-Max EV is the first production electric pickup in Europe to offer full commercial capabilities.
The zero-emission Isuzu D-Max produces 188 hp from its dual electric motors and is equipped with a 66.9 kWh battery pack, providing a claimed WLTP range of 163 miles. The starting price for the EV is £59,995 ($80,800), in contrast to the base diesel model, which costs £27,755 ($37,400).
Update: Isuzu has announced the UK pricing for the upcoming D-Max EV, with the initial customer deliveries set for February 2026. The story has been updated with the latest details regarding pricing, availability, and key specifications.
Isuzu is entering the electric pickup market with a familiar design and a new electric powertrain. The company has officially revealed the production model of its all-electric D-Max pickup, set to launch on European roads in early 2026.
While the exterior design remains familiar to potential buyers, the vehicle promises to be a zero-emission alternative without compromising the rugged practicality associated with the D-Max. Commercial fleets and private consumers looking to transition away from diesel but maintain payload capacity will likely find this model appealing.
The Isuzu D-Max EV is proclaimed as “the first production electric pickup in Europe with full commercial capabilities,” and will compete against rivals, including the forthcoming electric version of the next-generation Toyota Hilux.
From a visual standpoint, the EV is quite similar to its internal combustion counterparts. Unlike the concept version unveiled last year, the production D-Max EV does not feature a blocked grille. External modifications are minimal, primarily consisting of EV-specific badging, blue accents, and the absence of exhaust pipes. The charging port is conveniently located in the area where the fuel cap typically resides, preserving a familiar layout for users.
The electric pickup is available in two high-spec trims (eDL40 and eV-Cross), with customers having the option between Extended Cab and Double Cab configurations. The color options include the standard Splash White, along with the optional Mercury Silver Metallic, Obsidian Grey Mica, Onyx Black Mica, and Biarritz Blue Metallic, while the Dolomite White Pearl is exclusive to the top-tier V-Cross trim.
At its launch, Isuzu showcased the D-Max EV in a unique Norwegian Blue paint job, accented with black details and matching 18-inch alloy wheels.
Dual Electric Motors And 4WD
The D-Max EV is powered by dual electric motors generating a combined output of 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) and 325 Nm (240 lb-ft) of torque. This means it has 27 hp (20 kW) more than the diesel variant, while slightly sacrificing 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a full-time four-wheel-drive system, incorporating the Rough Terrain Mode feature from the diesel version.
Performance metrics include acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 10.1 seconds and a top speed just exceeding 80 mph (129 km/h). For truck enthusiasts, the electric D-Max maintains impressive working capabilities, with a payload capacity exceeding 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs) and a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes (7,716 lbs), comparable to diesel midsize pickups. Its off-road capabilities are robust as well, featuring a wading depth of 600 mm (23.6 inches) and a ground clearance of 210 mm (8.3 inches).
Battery and Charging Details
The D-Max EV is equipped with a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a WLTP range of 263 km (163 miles). While this range may seem modest compared to smaller electric vehicles, it aligns with the expectations for a midsize pickup that carries additional weight and size. The vehicle supports fast charging at up to 50 kW DC, allowing the battery to charge from 20 to 80 percent in approximately one hour. Isuzu provides an 8-year or 100,000-mile (160,900 km) warranty on the battery.
The fully electric truck is built on a modified ladder frame chassis used in the conventional Isuzu D-Max. However, it features a De-Dion rear suspension setup in place of leaf springs, resulting in a more polished driving experience.
Pricing And Availability
The D-Max EV was globally revealed at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham on April 29. Pre-sales in the UK commenced on July 21, with the first deliveries expected in February 2026.
Pricing begins at £59,995 ($80,800) before VAT, which is considerably higher than the diesel D-Max’s base price of £27,755 ($37,400). A more relevant comparison involves matching trims; in this case, the electric DL40 and V-Cross versions cost £24,240 ($32
