Alpine has transformed its A290 hot hatch into a €60,000 competition-ready electric rally car.
The A290 Rallye delivers the same 217 hp as its road counterpart but features numerous chassis enhancements.
Exclusive to the Rallye are components like a hydraulic handbrake and a noise generator to startle pedestrians.
Alpine made a name for itself with rally victories in the 1950s, 60s, and early 70s, and the introduction of the competition-ready A290 Rallye signifies that electric power does not hinder the ability to conquer mud, snow, and gravel.

The Rallye isn’t a wild Group B-style beast, but rather an entry-level rally car that can compete in local events. It remains close to the road-legal A290 hot hatch, which secured a win in the 2025 Car of The Year competition alongside its Renault 5 sibling.
Powertrain Modifications and Track-Oriented Features
This means it’s equipped with a single motor that delivers the same 217 hp (220 PS / 160 kW) to the front wheels as the top-tier production A290 (the base road model offers 178 hp / 180 PS / 132 kW). However, the power is now managed by a ZF mechanical limited-slip differential, and the chassis includes significant upgrades for improved handling.
ALP Racing Suspension dampers manage wheel and body movements, while the 18×8-inch Evo Corse wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport A tires. Additionally, the front brake system has been enhanced from 320 mm rotors and four-piston calipers to 350 mm discs and six-piston calipers. Alpine’s team has also refined the ABS system and added a hydraulic handbrake to enhance maneuverability on sharp turns.
Designed for the Stage
Due to FIA regulations and practical considerations, the Rallye comes with Sabelt bucket seats and a welded roll cage. However, another modification focuses on creating an exciting experience for rally spectators.
While the A290 already has a synthesized sound, Alpine has developed a new external sound generator for the Rallye that produces varied noises based on the vehicle’s speed and throttle input.
Pricing, Availability, and Future Plans
With a price tag of €59,990 (approximately £51,900 / $70,800), it is positioned as an affordable option in the customer rally car market, though it remains 40 percent pricier than a standard A290 with its more powerful motor option. Beyond the enhancements, you are also purchasing an A290 that is handcrafted in the competition shop at Alpine’s Jean Rédélé factory in Dieppe.
Alpine will unveil its first electric competitor for private buyers at the Rallye Rouergue Rodez Aveyron Occitanie this weekend, after which it will be transported to the UK for an appearance at Goodwood, followed by a display at the Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine.
Moreover, buyers of the A290 Rallye will have the opportunity to participate in a unique event in France later this year, which Alpine assures will be supported by technical assistance and, crucially, a dedicated charging infrastructure.
