Stellantis is re-establishing its high-performance SRT division in order to reconnect with its passionate fan base.

Tim Kuniskis, who previously led Dodge and is now the CEO of Ram, will manage SRT alongside the American brand portfolio.

Kuniskis assures that upcoming SRT vehicles will offer “more performance than we’ve ever seen before.”

The company lost significant credibility within the enthusiast community when it retired the Hemi V8 and attempted to market an electric vehicle as a genuine muscle car. Now, Stellantis is taking measures to address this misstep, including reviving its SRT performance division.

For over two decades, the Street and Racing Technologies label has been associated with vehicles ranging from the spirited Neon SRT-4 to the SRT Viper, although the team behind SRT dates back to the 1980s. However, Stellantis disbanded the SRT department in 2021, and at present, the only SRT-branded vehicle available is the Hellcat-equipped Durango. However, changes are on the horizon following today’s announcement.

Additionally, there’s good news for dedicated fans regarding the leadership of this SRT revival. Tim Kuniskis, who was instrumental at Dodge in creating remarkable vehicles like the Challenger SRT Demon 170, will oversee SRT as well as Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep. He will also continue as CEO of Ram, a role he took on in December 2024, seven months after his departure from Dodge. Managing all these responsibilities will undoubtedly require a skilled assistant.

“We’re getting the band back together,” Kuniskis remarked regarding the SRT announcement. “SRT is another box we needed to check as we move into a product launch rhythm that will allow for more performance than we’ve ever had before. We’re collaborating with our product development and technology teams to select the top engineers in powertrain and vehicle dynamics to create a team befitting the SRT name.”

Stellantis highlights that the renewed SRT division will oversee the Direct Connection performance parts program and manage all North American racing initiatives for the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram brands. These initiatives will include a return to NHRA drag racing and Ram’s involvement in the NASCAR Truck Series in 2026.

What’s your favorite SRT product and what would you like to see from the brand under Kuniskis? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
