The updated Urus Performante has been spotted undergoing testing, featuring an entirely new powertrain.
Lamborghini seems to be developing an upgraded version of the Urus Performante.
The prototype showcases slightly modified styling along with a completely new plug-in hybrid powertrain.
This powertrain consists of a twin-turbo V8, a 25.9 kWh battery, and an all-wheel drive system.
Lamborghini launched the Urus Performante in 2022, making it time for an update. However, the company isn’t merely refreshing its design; a new plug-in hybrid powertrain is also being introduced.
Recently seen testing on the Nordschleife, the facelifted Urus Performante features an evolutionary front design with altered bars and slats. It also displays updated air intakes and a new daytime running light pattern.
Additional modifications are minimal, but designers have provided the crossover with a new rear bumper and diffuser. The mid-mounted spoiler looks significantly taller than that of the existing model. The exhaust system also appears to be new, though it remains difficult to confirm at this stage.
Though camouflage obscures many details, we anticipate updated taillights and a revised liftgate similar to that of the Urus SE. Additionally, there is a charging port located opposite the fuel filler.
Currently, the model is equipped with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 657 hp (490 kW / 666 PS) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque, but markings indicate that the new version will incorporate a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is likely to replicate the setup seen in the Urus SE, which includes a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, a 25.9 kWh battery pack, and an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission.
This arrangement results in a total output of 789 hp (588 kW / 800 PS). It allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.4 seconds, reach a top speed of 194 mph (312 km/h), and offers an EPA-rated electric-only range of 35 miles (56 km). In comparison, the current Urus Performante reaches 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.3 seconds and has a maximum speed of 190 mph (306 km/h).
While the powertrain might receive enhancements for the performance variant, incorporating plug-in hybrid technology seems to contradict the crossover’s focus on lightweight construction. When the current model debuted, the company claimed it possessed the “highest number of carbon fiber parts in its segment,” stating that these elements helped reduce weight by 104 lbs (47 kg) and provided the model with a leading power-to-weight ratio.
