Toyota and Lexus are set to raise prices by several hundred dollars starting in July.

While the company has refrained from attributing the increases to tariffs, it's likely they had an influence. Other manufacturers, such as Ford and Subaru, have also discreetly raised their prices this year.

Purchasing a new car is becoming increasingly costly, and there's little indication that this trend will change in the near future. The 2026 Toyota Prius recently experienced a $200 price increase, while the plug-in hybrid Prius Prime saw a $400 hike. Additionally, further price increases for both Toyota and Lexus seem imminent.

As reported by Reuters, prices across Toyota's range are projected to increase by an average of $270 starting in July. Lexus will also see a rise, though its average increase will be slightly less, around $208.

While specifics are currently unclear, Toyota representatives have refuted the notion that the price hikes are directly tied to tariffs. A spokesperson conveyed to the publication, “The latest price hike is part of our regular price review process.”

That said, some companies have intentionally avoided attributing their price increases to tariffs, given that President Trump has been known to target firms that do so. Earlier this year, Walmart indicated that tariffs would necessitate higher prices, prompting Trump to suggest they “should STOP trying to blame tariffs for raising prices across the board.” He further stated the company should "absorb the tariffs" and "not pass any costs onto valued customers."

The administration also criticized Amazon over a report indicating the company would reveal how tariffs contributed to increased goods prices. Although this proposal was never put into action, the White House condemned it as a “hostile and political act by Amazon.”

In light of this context, it’s understandable that some companies choose not to cite tariffs, even if they are a contributing factor. Nonetheless, several automakers have already raised their prices, including Ford, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and Ineos.
